It doesn't hurt that he's by the late Pulpit. With what Tapit has been able to do, I suspect that almost any decently talented and conformed son of Pulpit will be given a chance at stud..

Brother Derek Sold to Saudi Arabia
Multiple grade 1 winner and millionaire Brother Derek has been purchased by Saudi Arabian owner/breeder Abdulaziz Albarjes and will stand at his Alysoob Stud Farm near Riyadh.

The 14-year-old son of Benchmark—Miss Soft Sell, by Siyah Kalem, is expected to arrive in Saudi Arabia Feb. 24. He does not have a stud fee for 2017 because breeding fees are not charged.

Alysoob Stud also owns American-bred sires Pomeroy and Flashy Bull, who entered stud overseas in 2015.

I love that the Bull is ticked and not snow white at his age. Such a wonderful horse. Good to see him still looking so healthy at his age.

An update on Lord Nelson.

I know that they are saying 'there is reason for optimism,' but the fact that he's still battling the laminitis and is just 'holding steady' worries me. :( I hope the next release confirms some improvement.

I think "cautious optimism" sounds good at this point. We learned with Barbaro how quickly these things can go sideways, and more recently with Lady Eli that it can turn out okay. Here's hoping the Lord recovers like the Lady.

He's certainly a lot more filled out than when we saw him in person in June 2015, LOL. Amazing what a couple of years at stud does!

Sigh..this is why I wish the thoroughbred industry would allow AI- I would love to be able to breed to some of these wonderful horses across the world, or even across the US- as it wouldn't be feasible for me to even ship a mare from Ohio to some of the nice studs in California.

Agreed! And it's crazy how much he looks like both his parents especially now that he's filled out.

When we start getting news about California Chrome at stud, would this be the place to post it? Or would it go on his thread under the Racing category?

I'm hoping we might hear how things went or are going with his introduction to test mares this past week, but don't know if farms typically release such information, even for famous racehorses. Does anyone know? The Taylor Made folks said before the Pegasus that they were planning to get him ready to cover mares at the start of the breeding season around February 14th. So without any word about the test mares, would it be safe to assume things went good and he will begin covering his book as planned next week?

This is a part of the business I know nothing about, so would be grateful if anyone here who does know about getting new stallions ready could share some insights. Thanks :)

Here and/or his thread in Racing would be perfect. :) I can't wait to hear how his transition goes!
