Duramente's pedigree is one of the most impressive in Japan as his first three dams are all champions, with his second dam the 1997 Horse of the Year, Air Groove.

Duramente is expected to be sent to the Shadai Stallion Station in a few weeks and thereafter a decision will be made as to whether he will be syndicated for stud duty or whether the Yoshida family will stand him.

Under terms of the arrangements with Sunday Racing Club, the colt will be purchased from club members prior to beginning his new career.
Champion Duramente(JPN)(King Kamehameha) has arrived in Shadai Stallion Station on July 21st 2016.
He will undergo treatment first.

However, I wondered about this:
"King Kamehameha, who Shadai has had to carefully manage over the last several seasons after he contracted equine herpes..."
IIRC, equine herpes is contagious, so how do you "manage" that? How do you keep the mares safe from being infected? Is the disease only infectious when there are physical symptoms (lesions)?
I know that humans with herpes can still shed the virus, even when there are no superficial symptoms, but I don't know how similar the human and equine versions of the disease are.
They might be confusing EHV with EVA (equine viral arteritis). There is no treatment for EHV and once it becomes symptomatic the infected horses rarely live very long (the symptoms tend to be neurologic). It is spread primarily by nostril secretions.

EVA on the other hand is mainly transmitted through infected carrier stallions. Carrier stallions can only be bred to mares that have been vaccinated, and they need to be separated from noncarrier stallions.

Weren't there rather strict quarantine conditions that Lani had to abide by, because of the possibility (even if remote) that he might be carrying EVA?

''Equine Herpes''???

This surprised me but I wonder if Racing Post (Michele MacDonald?) can simply be incorrect if they are not true veterinary experts.
We don't know yet exactly what kind of illness King Kamehameha suffered as Shadai has never published it.
I wonder if even Shadai has not found the real cause of King Kamehameha's ''genital abscesses''... ???
That reamains a mystery...

We discussed it before below.

EVA isn't quite as big a deal as EHV, there are several popular sporthorse stallions who are carriers and the vaccine is pretty common for broodmares. EHV is the one where they are very strict because there is no vaccine and the acute form is almost always fatal. EVA is only fatal when it affects young foals.

It's equine herpes virus 3 or equine coital exanthema, a different strain than the herpes virus that causes respiratory or neurological issues. You can read more about it here http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/repro ... thema.html

Pioneerof the Nile(USA) sired his first grade stakes winner in JRA, when his 2yo colt Levante Lion(USA)[o/o Ghostly Darkness(USA) by Ghostzapper(USA)] won in the G3 Hakodate Nisai Stakes 1200m turf smashing the stakes record at Hakodate 11R on July 24th 2016.

And out of a Ghostzapper mare? That's a pedigree with a lot of speed. Not surprised the colt broke a record.
Love the way the Japanese have proven that even horses with what looks like strictly a dirt pedigree can still excel on grass.

There was some discussion earlier about Dynaformer sons. Looks like Mr. Big has entered the conversation, even if it took him six years to gain some notice.
It's unfortunate that one of the offspring who showed how good he might be as a stallion was the recently injured Big Book. Hope they can save her.

The paulickreport article has been updated. Unfortunately, Big Book couldn't be saved.

It does seem like sixteen is a bit young to be pensioned. It's too bad that the beautiful grey won't be adding to his notable offspring.

Guess who's stamping his 2-yr-olds? This isn't the greatest picture, but we were out at the farm a few weeks ago and saw this guy.

It's a Get Stormy colt that looks so much like dad! (I can't remember his name or dam--I think his name might have been Tempestuous Angel, maybe IC can remember.)
