We used to drive by often when I had my dr appointments in Lexington.. it's not really "on the way", but my mom made sure we took detours to brighten my days, past all and every horse farm she could think of. Cancer sucks. Horses rock.
When we pulled over on the side of Versailles Rd, due to my nausea so I could step out and get some fresh air/vomit off the side of the road, it was often okay and my mom used it as an excuse to take a good look over Calumet, however, the last time we stopped nearby (pretty close to the gate), a guy, assumingly someone who worked there, came and asked us to leave (understandably so).
Calumet is a huge area, beautiful and wellkept (at least around the area you can see passing by on Versailles), it really is a shame they don't take visitors unless you want to view a stallion.
I'm lucky enough to have toured calumet as a fan. It was in 2014 and I went on a horse farm tour through the Kentucky horse park. I just happened to be lucky that our tour guide that day knew connections at calumet and got us in
