I always forget Le Havre is a son of Noverre. Noverre was a favorite of mine when he raced, I thought he was gorgeous and being a 3/4 brother to Arazi probably helped.

Re the Bast change of plan--if a mare doesn't get ib foal on the first try, can her owner just void the contract? By which I mean, just say "Well, I think I'll just go elsewhere" and not be liable for any payment? Is there a required number of tries the stud gets?

I'm sure a few here may be able to aswer that.
You don't usually hear about them skipping contract unless something happens to the stallion, or the mare has failed to take on a few tries. And I'm sure the farm would have tried to sway them on another of their stallions vs going to another farm's horse.

I imagine it varies farm by farm, and varies by stallion.

I know you have to pay the booking fee regardless. As far as paying a second booking fee if you don't get in-foal the first time, I'm not sure.

With a stallion who has smaller books on average, the farm may only make you pay the booking fee once. In regards to a stallion like War Front whose book is capped (I believe), they might make you pay it a second time, especially if there are others on the waiting list.

It could have been she didn't get in foal and they were not able to fit her back in the next time she was ready to be bred. Lane's End has this on their breeding forms: If trying to book a foal heat or double please keep in mind the following stallions will be difficult to accommodate: CANDY RIDE (ARG), CITY OF LIGHT, QUALITY ROAD and TWIRLING CANDY.
