He's not grumpy, he's contentedly being a brat and chewing wood! My OTTB does that (and cribs).

He must be a well manner guy to be trusted to hold his own lead while blanketed

Oh good GOD. This is ludicrously adorable. And surprising, as Northport says -- he must be a real doll, or they must trust him an awful lot. I know some very nice geldings who will go Mr. Hyde when the blankets come out. :D
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!

Or...the groom is giving him something else to chew on (besides him) while he gets the blanket on? ;)

Looks like his Daddy in the head(minus the white) and Daddy had those calculating eyes that seemed to follow you everywhere without turning his head.

Very cute. He's got that Galileo head, doesn't he? Fine-boned and alert...and I love his whiskers.
From what I've seen over the years, Irish horses don't get that shaved-smooth-as-baby's-bottom facial hair trim...they get to keep their whiskers.
