John Gwynn :

David Rizzio

For a gang of guys that call themselves the Avengers, they don't really use it as a basis for naming horses at all.

I like Game of Thrones names, but for them... bleh. Looking forward to seeing Westeros retire with 6 starts, a G1 win, and cover 275 mares for $40,000 at Spendthrift in 2025.

The original horse has to be over 10 years old, and it has to have been 5 years since they last raced or were used for breeding. G1 winners its 25 years.

There are other conditions where the name can never be reused: Eclipse and Sovereign Award winners, horses in the Hall of Fame, stallions that were the leading sire or broodmare sire, earners of $2 million+, winners of the Derby, Preakness, Belmont, JCGC, BCC and BC Turf, horses who made it on the International List of Protected Names.

Then a horse can't be named after a horse in its first 5 generation pedigree. That's because of Izarra-->Arlucea-->Bayakoa-->Arlucea-->Izarra, which is super confusing. And a name can't be used if the sire or dam already had a foal named that.
