And he's still intact? I'm kind of surprised that his connections haven't decided to stand him at stud by this time. Considering how successful Sunday's sons have been, I bet some farm would be happy to give him a chance.

Um.. yes.. he is still listed as a ''horse'' on NAR's official website.BaroqueAgain1 wrote:And he's still intact? But I can't be quite sure that he has not been gelded yet.
These [horse or gelding] info on the NAR horses are not always updated...

Genuine(JPN), 1992H Sunday Silence(USA) x Croupier Lady(USA) by What Luck(USA), died today in a paddock accident at Shadai Stallion Station where he had been pensioned.
http://www.jbis.jp/horse/0000262275/
Of the first crop of Sunday Silence, Genuine became memorable first Classic winner for his sire as he captured G1 Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) beating another Sunday Silence son Tayasu Tsuyoshi(JPN) at Nakayama 2000m turf on April 16th 1995.
Genuine also won the G1 Mile Championship in 1996.
As a stallion, Genuine couldn't sire any G1 winner in Japan.
But he did sire his mutiple G1 winner Pompei Ruler(AUS) in Australia where he had shuttled to.

There can be some skepticism toward these rating systems.
But this certainly adds a new chapter to the legacy of Sunday Silence(USA) and the history of the Japanese racing. We are just happy about it.
His performance in the Dubai Duty Free was just awesome.
Congrats to Just A Way(JPN)[Heart's Cry(JPN) x Sibyl(JPN) by Wild Again(USA)] for being the 2014 Longines World's Best Racehorse -- the first Japanese horse ever to be awarded this title!

I admit that I'm not a fan of those ratings. I would have put Gentildonna over Just a Way, and the fact that she's not even in the top ten just makes me think, "What the ****!?"
She won the Sheema Classic, which IMO is Dubai's premier turf race during the Carnival, not the Duty Free. She closed out her year with a spectacular win in the Arima Kinen, soundly beating Just a Way and Epiphaneia....and yet those two are on that top ten list.

Er.. um... ah... (as I said...) I knew there would be some negative reactions.
But... ''only one performance'' ??????
I don't want to get involed in a fruitless debate over the rating system in this thread, but....
I wonder if Just a Way has a say, haha!
Just a Way already established his rating basis before the Dubai Duty Free when he crushed the field that included Gentildonna in the G1 Tenno Sho 2000m Turf at Tokyo.
-- replay of the Tenno Sho Autumn 2000m turf at Tokyo, Oct 27, 2013.

Some fans still believe that Just a Way was even more impressive in the Tenno Sho Autumn than in the Duty Free!
And he was believed (by the handicappers of this rating system) to have improved his performance by winning the Duty Free 1800m turf in an eye-popping record time by open lenghths.
He also finished second in the Japan Cup for the distance 2400m that was not believed to be his best distance beating Gentildonna again. (his 130 rating was for [Mile] category)
Gentildonna, on the other hand, was righty awarded JRA's Horse of the Year title by winning her swan song in the Arima Kinen.
And, I do think that she deserved the HOTY title for her overall achievements. (Um.. I can explain why she didn't get high rating for her Arima Win or for her Sheema win. But I don't dare to do it.... it's fruitless. And that's the rating system, good or bad.)
Both grandchildren of Sunday Silence, Gentildonna and Just a Way, should get the respect they deserve respectively, in my opinion.

Stay Gold(JPN), sire of triple crown winner Orfevre and some other standouts, died suddenly today at Breeders Stallion Station. Stay Gold was the first son of Sunday Silence to win Group 1 race outside of Japan. And, like his sire Sunday Silence(USA), he was the most unlikely hero especiialy at stud.
Even after his death, he will continue to be one of the most prominent flag-bearers, if not the best, for the Sunday Silence's sireline.
Stay Gold didn't get best group of mares till fairly recently. But he managed to sire excellent boys who are already or will be at stud --- Dream Journey, Nakayama Festa, Orfevre, Fenomeno, Gold Ship.
May he rest in peace.

I hate to read of this horse's passing. I still remember when he was racing and couldn't take many contests in his home country, but ship him to Hong Kong and Dubai and he'd beat all comers.
He has quite a few nice sons at stud now; I hope they will carry on his line.

JRA announced today that the cause of his death was aortic rupture.
He is said to have shown abnormalimities after his first stud duty of the season yesterday.
and... I forgot to refer to the episode below;
-- from 2014 JRA Awards:
The Equine Culture Award was given to Toshinori Ishida, a freelance writer who penned the nonfiction work “The Golden Journey - Stay Gold, the Horse that Far Exceeded Expectations.”
I haven't read this book.
But, yes, Stay Gold was definitely a horse that far exceeded expectations.
And that's why he had exceptional fan followings, not only as a runner but also as a stallion.
May he rest in peace.

Suzuka Mambo(JPN) died of heart failure at Arrow Stud on Feb 20th 2015.
That's shocking news especially as he had been improving his mares with the success of his offspring after his relatively-modest race record as a G1 winner of Sunday Silence. Champion filly Meisho Mambo(JPN) made the sire proud.
May he rest in peace.

During the race!? If that's so, it's pretty amazing that he won. Hope he recovers completely.
