I think Calumet should take full fault of this mare. They are her breeder, she clearly could never race so they bred her at 3, kept her around a few years and sold her on in a digital sale in 2020 for 1.5k cause you know those billionaires need those pennies.Akitaperson wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 1:47 pm
No idea but it even states in her ad that the leg affects her mobility. So that tells me whoever bred her is greedy pur and simple.

I'd already looked awhile ago could only find the one that had pics(once Keeneland moves on to the next catalog I think they remove their pics), he went through FT October last year. I've never felt I was good at judging a horse's conformation but his legs look weird to me, not as bad as his dam.Danniwolfe wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 3:41 pmHow do her offspring lookFlanders wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 3:13 pmI think Calumet should take full fault of this mare. Do you think the management at Calumet just get paid so well that they just accept whatever crazy things Brad Kelley does? Or is it someone in said management that is making all of these crazy decisions on Kelley’s behalf? The whole operation just feels like a tax write off

I honestly have no clue what the hell goes on there but it pisses me off. I'd be really curious how many foals they produce in a given year. Is it just a churn out as many as possible while barely using their own stallions to try and get leading breeder in earnings? I don't care if they don't breed to their own stallions either, though it is baffling to me. The things that piss me off are the just never ending under 2k horses they produce. The 20yo mares they put in the sales every year. When I was doing some looking on the above mare, I saw they sold a 2014 foal o/o Garimpeiro. That is Geri's dam, Geri who was an older horse in 1996. So I looked and they bred her and she had a 2017 foal! She was 27. Did she survive? Who knows probably not. Because of when she was born she doesn't show up on the JC anymore and they certainly were NOT putting an article out about her. They run the place like they need to squeeze every penny out of every horse. But the guy is a billionaire and there is NO excuse.Northport wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 9:04 pmIm no expert either but his hind legs look extremely upright.Flanders wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 4:12 pmI'd already looked awhile ago could only find the one that had pics(once Keeneland moves on to the next catalog I think they remove their pics), he went through FT October last year. Whisper Hill boards at Gainesway and used to at Timber Town(not sure if they completely stopped or still have some there).Akitaperson wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 5:55 pm https://paulickreport.com/news/bloodsto ... -gainesway

She was due to American Pharoah this year.

Seems like this is more likely what happened. She had the Charlatan foal in early March last year. Probably just too damn painful to write about what exactly happened for the time being. Really sad to lose such a prized mare.
I wanna do bad things with you.

Well, it appears that Plum Pretty died last year. JC record shows her death was in 2023. Some people are reporting that information on X. Makes you wonder if she had an accident and maybe the investigation on it ended so that is why it was reported today?

Could very well be that Mandy Pope just needed some time. She also lost Havre de Grace last year. She seems to be close to her mares so losing two might have been too much that close together. Its okay if she needed time. Its nice that she still wanted to tell the industry and the horse's fans. A lot don't bother doing so.

Thought this was interesting to see. Puerto Rican Broodmare True Time (by Commendable) enjoying retirement at age 21. She had produced two domestic MG1Ws.

Misty Sky, the mare posted early with the really screwed up leg. Well she sold for $3500 to Forever Young Racing, never heard of them.
Hopefully once she has the foal she's put down after weaning (if she's comfortable) and not rebred

"Hopefully once she has the foal she's put down after weaning (if she's comfortable) and not rebred"
Did you mean to say she should be euthanized (put down) 'if she's comfortable?
If she's comfortable, shouldn't she be allowed to live life as a pasture pet? And, of course, not re-bred.

According to the sale ad that leg affects her mobility. If she is able to be kept comfortable and she were mine I'd wait til weaning to put her down. She'd never be a pasture puff if she can barely get aroundBaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 9:51 pm "Hopefully once she has the foal she's put down after weaning (if she's comfortable) and not rebred"

Man, to be able to ring up Coolmore and ask for a handful of their castoffs.
It’s great to see the big and diverse investment that Stewart is making in broodmares. Here’s hoping his operation can be sustained in the long term.
