If you are interested, there is a Facebook page with this title in Japanese: 日本のカリフォルニアクローム (California Chrome in Japan). Although the person who runs it has an American name, I believe he lives in or has connections Japan.
I've visited that Facebook for the first time.
It took more than one hour to scroll down to the bottom of the page.

I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Previously, there was a normal group, but after the sale of Chrome to Japan, it is better not to go there (because there is a bunch of those who believe that the Japanese will eat Chrome, that he is depressed and in general he is not the same) (IMHO)Diver52 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 1:03 pmThe host of California Chrome's Home commented "God has a plan."Private Thoughts wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 9:03 am California Chrome has his first NA winner in Cilla. 100% so. They can’t come to terms with the fact that he is in Japan, even though they are given videos and photos. Excessive fanaticism.

Between people saying that the "spark is finally back in his eyes", saying he looks gaunt, thin, depressed, and people saying they should pool their money to buy him back, you can tell that they have never actually laid hands on a horse in their lives, yet have the audacity to make ridiculous statements and accusations about the care provided at a top level farm... based on the handful of photos they post once a month There's plenty of resources and forums out there to learn about horse care and racing as a whole, but those people aren't actual fans, they're loons who latched on to him and only him and have no interest in learning in expanding their knowledge of the world he lives in.
Also LOVE that since most of the photos they have are of him in his stall, people are assuming he doesn't get turned out.... like... guys.... that's not how farms work, that's not even how the concept of photography works.
Does JS Company/Arrow Stud have a facebook or insta?

I think the biggest asterisk is that he isn't at Shadai and getting Shadai mares, although I honestly think he is among the best stallions acquired by Japan in the last several years (at least going on race record).

Yeah, being at Shadai definitely means he’s up against it. Silver Charm, Charismatic, Cape Blanco, Empire Maker, Johannesburg, I’ll Have Another, Majestic Warrior, Eskendereya, etc. all horses who had strong race records or already were having decent stallion careers who just haven’t really broken through in Japan, though I’ll admit that some only have a handful of crops on the ground there, but it’s a pretty common pattern for non Shadai imports to get three figure books for the first two or three seasons before a precipitous drop, unless they have a superstar, which it seems like many don’t get.
Is it dumb luck? Maybe. But for all of them? Is it because they aren’t covering the top half of the best mares in the country, or not covering as many as Shadai stallions are? Probably.
I’d say Darley would be the 2nd best option for an import, they’ve done a good job with Pyro. He’s got himself a nice niche as a consistently good dirt producer, with his smallest book being his first year at stud with 84 mares, but he’s been covering three figure books ever since then. It helps that they also have the broodmare power to support their own stallions.
All that being said, I’m really hoping Declaration of War breaks the mould. He’s teed up to be a potential international supersire across both surfaces and all distances. Hopefully they can keep that momentum going.

I would think that you are about 85 - 90% right.
But a closer look at the most recent trend in JRA (in individual results of graded stakes and juvenile races since last year) could provide different perspectives.
I think that non-Shadai breeders are doing better recently than what they used to be up until a few years ago, while Shadai's regally-breds are somewhat loosing momentum from the peak, even if Shadai remains a gigantic operation in numbers and its regally-breds can easily pop up in some SNS.
Okada family will play a key roll for non-Shadai. And I'm sure that such breeders with international ambitions like Koji Maeda's North Hills will not hesitate to send mares to non-Shadai stallions, too.
Interestingly, we are likely to see Triple Crown winners both in male and female division this year, none of them is Shadai-bred.
I know that California Chrome is a big hope for non-Shadai horse people and I strongly hope that he will make a big success.

Also the gene pool gets more and more saturated with Sunday Silence blood every year and they're going to need more outcrosses.
