Three years of Latin in Catholic school. My mind jumped to what's probably more appropriately written Felis Catulis or Catus. Felis Catus is what we called our plain ol' domestic kitty. I just looked it up and I guess it could be a more exotic type small young cat, maybe a specific taxonomic species within the domestic cat genus. Our Latin teacher was a nun from Ireland who doubled as our Science teacher, so not sure discipline she was teaching when I first heard this catchy term. I thought it was cute even then, lol.

I'll be waiting for this one to be named: 2017 TAPIT x WINTER MEMORIES colt ... was an OUT at the OBS 2YO sale after posting a 22.1 (which is considered slow for that sale).

He is a full to the nice graded filly Winter Sunset. Oddly enough, this one's chestnut with a nice splash across the nose and 1 white sock. Grey to Grey and gets you... red? Love the color genetics.

You have to go back to Gana Facil on Tapit's side (dam of Unbridled, a bay) and Little Current on Winter Memories' side (sire of All My Memories, a bay) to get the chestnut gene in this one. Interestingly, their half brother, Make Memories (by Street Cry) is also chestnut.

Tapit is a chestnut with grey modifier. All his foals will always get the chestnut gene from him and then its 50% if they get the grey modifier gene. Winter Memories could very well be chestnut with grey modifier as well, as her yearling by Tapit is also chestnut.

Color genetics at their finest. Always knew that under the grey modifier Tapit was chestnut. I recall Winter Memories herself as a 2YO at Breeders Cup being a lovely grey/brown mottle with dark points of a bay - always assumed she was bay like her mother.
