Yes, I realize that. I meant the leg closest to the camera be square under them. They all seem to be under themselves too much and look like they're leaning forward. After showing many, many horses at the sale, I know there are plenty of photographers that are very capable of making a horse look excellent in a conformation shot.TBird wrote:Conventional wisdom dictates that the right front leg be visible in a conformation shot. Even when the handler manages to get it placed correctly, the horse's stance can still look awkward. When the leg is angled too far back, it can create the illusion of faults that don't exist. The conformation picture is only intended to be a basic guideline--not a definitive presentation of the horse in question (especially since it shows only one view of four.) Honestly, I don't think that anyone to whom a correct evaluation of a horse is important will spend much time studying conformation pictures. They'll just go see the horse in person.Acadiana wrote:I think they made Animal Kingdom look rather over at the knee in that shot. Especially the right front looks like he's up on his toe. He's a beautiful horse, along with Frankel and Bated Breath but all three needed someone who could get them standing more square and not leaning or shifting weight one way, etc. I know it's not easy from experience, but these are high quality stallions, I'd work hard for that one special shot.
Obviously, the best choice is to go see the stallion in person but I still feel it's worth it to have a flattering conformation shot of your stallion for advertising purposes.

Its standard practice at a lot of farms, not to do an official confirmation photo until after their first season at stud. The reason being, the horse changes so much from racing fit to breeding stallion.RuffiantoRags wrote:Has anyone seen a conformation shot of Trinniberg yet?

I have two photos of Exceller when he stood at Gainesway. The first is when he was just retired and racing fit, the second after a year at stud. Wow, what a difference. He was such a handsome boy.

Maybe outside the breeding season, but I believe not during the season. Man, I'd love that job: being paid to walk briskly 7 miles a day in such gorgeous surroundings, and leading Frankel as I go!

I'm a worst-case-scenario kinda person. I'd be horrified if something happened. He's worth way too much!pointgivenfan wrote:That escalated quickly.Life At Zen wrote:Until he snaps the lead and flips over backwards and kills himself. Could you imagine? I'll admire from afar! LolDella wrote:

From what I've read about Frankel, he's a hothead. Some might say 'high-spirited,' others might say 'a frelling handful.'
I'd guess that whoever walks that expensive hunk of muscle and testosterone is likely the most experienced...and burliest...groom in the stable.

That's how the great Danehill died - an accident while being hand grazed in his paddock...

Frankel looks pretty well-behaved here, and his groom/walker is the least burly of them all. He must be a really good horseman to be given that responsibility of keeping Frankel organized and safe.

Talk about heavy-handed Photoshop work...the shadows don't even match up with the feet, and he's had more "work" done than Joan Rivers.

Back to Pathfork: If you want a painting of your horse, hire a fine portrait artist who specializes in horses, and have a REAL painting done. I love the old oil paintings of great Thoroughbreds...and a good artist can truly capture a horse's likeness and make a great piece of art.
Photoshopping a photo to such an extent that it looks like an illustration is just....tacky.

The way that this was done makes that back leg with the sock look really weird.
