Hmm...he looks more blonde than gray and black. Most black horses are born with a black "base" but with a light gray ombre cast over it.

I'd bet money on him being black. Most black foals are born with a mousy coloured coat, this one just looks a bit bleached.

He looks to have darker tail hair grown in in his older racing photo so I'm still calling extended foal flaxen.Slinky_Malinky wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 12:07 amActually, I think he's a rabicano. Look at his hip. There's an area of obvious sun reflection across the point of his hip. Above that, on his croup, it's got a lot of white. A bay horse or bay with gulastra wouldn't necessarily have that look to it.
The white on the shoulder looks more somatic mutation. Rabicano *normally expresses at the top of the tail head, flanks, and in heavier expression over the barrel.
There is no white on him anywhere except the blaze and stockings. Look at other photos of him. He's a regular bay.

His entire shoulder is grey. Its not a reflection, its grey.peepswifeyy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 6:34 amNothing speaks rabicano about him. He's a regular bay with gulastra plume (silver tail).

Interesting. Looks more environmental than genetic, to me.HB1994 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 2:39 pmShe has been named Goldfinch and is training with Dermot Weld.ThreeMustangs wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2019 1:34 pm From Jess Samy’s Twitter account:

Very flashy Melrose Abbey (by Selkirk) sold at Tattersalls Mare Sale today as Lot 1192. There is also a video of her, where you can see she has a big belly spot also.

I doubt the pictured horse is the one mentioned in the headline, but he/she has a very cool blaze.

The horse in the picture was Lot 791, a colt foal by The Grey Gatsby named Prince de Belair. He also has 4 white legs, but he is going grey.Gemini wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 1:56 am https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing ... al-session

This is a very competitive field!
As of 09:30 Japan Time Sunday, Sodashi is quoted the 5/2 favorite.

Awesome. I just saw JRA posted the replay on Youtube. It really didn't look like she won from the camera angle, it was very close. I had to put the video on .25 speed to see she just got it. Tachyon if you can find a photo finish I would love to see the picture.
