Interesting. It would seem then that, at least for the first few years, AP will be too valuable to shuttle.Flanders wrote:No.bare it all wrote:One up that... Cigar.Treve wrote:The pinnacle of irony would be a repeat of War Emblem (or worse... not even picky, just, not into mares!)
Wouldn't Pharoah be amazing at the horse park?
I want to see his foals race. I'm hoping the insurance company says he is worth too much money to shuttle. They told them that with Giant's Causeway.

I do too, because I'm a strong believer in the old adage that an animal is judged on three things, their pedigree, their performance and their offspring. So I actually want to see him do well at stud. Was just thinking how ironic it would be, first TC winner in 37 years, first grand slam winner, and we can't get a single baby out of himFlanders wrote:No.bare it all wrote:One up that... I mean, he has had a great year. I would have guessed $75,000 (considering he stood for $35,000 in 2015), but if his book is limited to 125 mares they must not be concerned about filling it at $100,000. Makes Hard Spun and Street Sense seem like steals at $45,000.CoronadosQuest wrote:Curlin to stand for $100,000 with a limit of 125 mares

YO. Damn! What a hike. I was just joking with a friend that I'd go to Curlin at $35k before I'd touch POTN at $125k+ any day of the week. Of course, I am in the "blessed" position (no mare and no money) to not have to change my mind, even with the price hike.CoronadosQuest wrote:Curlin to stand for $100,000 with a limit of 125 mares

Pleased as punch for the big guy. Hope he gets a stellar book. He has performed very consistently and his kids just keep showing up. Curious about the book limit. Do farms often state their numbers outright? Or is it a tactic to make him seem like a limited commodity?
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!

That's a biiiig jump.
Still more of a deal than POTN though. Curlin has 3 Grade 1 winners this year as well as a few other Graded winners. POTN can't say that, for $125,000...
The way fees are going for 2016 I can almost see Coolmore aiming for $200,000 for AP.

Stallion inflation is definitely back. No doubt in that. I assume the price jump may also be Hill N Dale's way of targeting the highest quality mares possible?
I can't explain why my emotional response to this news is to think "MY SON!" with a great deal of pride. I love this guy. I hope he goes fantastic at this price.

Re POTN and his "star" winner of the Bangalore Oaks isn't it fairly common for a young stallion's second and third crops to drop off? What I thought I understood was that breeders sent top mares the first year--the owners would want to give the horse every chance, and outside breeders would want the most desirable yearlings on the theory that the market would be strong for a young stallion everyone wanted to get a piece of. But the next couple of years everyone would be waiting to see the first foals run, so mare quality drops off. After that, the quality of the book begins to reflect the stallion's actual production. I seem to remember that Candy Ride had a sensational first crop and then slowed down substantially, but is now picking it up again. (But I agree that $125,000 for POTN is, well, kinda high.)
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

The state of the world and the economy is not the best either. I agree that some of these fees are just wishful thinking. I really don't think they will recoup their expenses with these stallions sky high prices.

Yeah seems like stallion inflation is back - and the bubble's about to burst, especially if you look at the state of the sales.
(As a side note I read a very interesting article a while back about how the bloodstock auction market is a direct indicator about incoming economic lows and highs, as well as sometimes reflecting the current situation).

I'm a little surprised that his fee didn't go up after the year that Golden Horn had. He's a pretty good deal at that price.
