Australia has a penchant for retiring horses to stud that literally only did anything at age 2.

You need to go look at this. They don't show who he beat except the 3rd place in the Coolmore Stud Stakes(G1), they just name other winners of the 2 races he won. That is the first time I've seen something like that and its stupid as hell. It'd be like Rich Strike going to stud and then they just list all the Triple Crown winners beside his Derby win. lolNorthport wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 3:37 pmSaw that coming from a mile away. i've noticed that's a thing Coolmore does. a lot of their ads are like "*stallion name here* won this race just like *insert famous stallions here*"Flanders wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 4:05 pmYou need to go look at this. I mean, they have to find a way to lure in breeders for $55,000 a cover. I guess they're just hoping that breeders dont have access to the internet. He'll cover 250 mares either way so I guess the marketing works.Flanders wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 4:05 pmYou need to go look at this. Justify won’t be going back to Coolmore Australia. I guess he is too valuable now? Or Storm
Boy and Learning to Fly didn’t quite take off as they had hoped. But Tom Magnier also mentioned that their best Australian mares are going to Shinzo.

He’s been struggling getting mares in foal this year so I wonder if that’s part of the reason also.Northport wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 9:31 am Justify won’t be going back to Coolmore Australia. I guess he is too valuable now? Or Storm

earlier this year we discussed how big we thought his book would be. say it's about 275 (or higher. after Golden Pal, nothing surprises me anymore), is it fair to assume his actual number of covers would be 500+, especially if he is struggling to get them in foal?
also TDN reported that he will cover "select mares" in SH time. i wonder if maybe there wouldn't be as much demand for him good mare wise to make the trip too worth it. weren't there rumors there was something off with his feet a few years ago when he also didn't go so maybe they don't want to take that risk...?

That’s very interesting. Luckily he’s already proven to be an excellent stallion, so he won’t get the Early Voting treatment. I wonder what his numbers will end up being, since 150 mares or less is a small book at Coolmore.Summer Bird wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:47 amHe’s been struggling getting mares in foal this year so I wonder if that’s part of the reason also.Northport wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 9:31 am Justify won’t be going back to Coolmore Australia. jokes aside i wonder if his 8000 mares/year is already taking its toll, like Early Voting.

Interesting - has it been said if it's a fertility issue or a performance problem?Summer Bird wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:47 amHe’s been struggling getting mares in foal this year so I wonder if that’s part of the reason also.Northport wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 9:31 am Justify won’t be going back to Coolmore Australia. With the outrageous number of mares justify covers in America alone (222 in 2023) hes probably exhausted

When those hoof rumors were going around his hooves looked like crap. I even saw some folks saying his hooves looked similar to there house who'd foundered. He also was wearing special boots on the fronts to back then. But given his soundness issues on the track I wasnt shocked to see he had or still has hoof issues

Maybe breeding 410 mares last year compromised him on some spectrums? Really sad that people worry about racing's impact on a horse's body when some farms push the envelope with such an unworldly demand on a stallion. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets the WinStar treatment either. Unethical.

Justify is like if you took all of the racing industry's ailments and condensed them down into a single horse. Short career because of greedy owners, overbreeding because of greedy stud farms, shadows over his record because of systemic problems with racing jurisdictions. I was frankly hoping he would be a bust at stud because nobody involved with the horse deserves to be rewarded for the way they've treated him, but none of it is his fault. I hope any fertility problems are natural, not the result of what they've done to him, and I hope he gets a chance to be a horse at some point in his life.

This needs to be pasted EVERYWHERE. Even worse is that he is in the Hall of Fame now.Tessablue wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 7:04 pm Justify is like if you took all of the racing industry's ailments and condensed them down into a single horse. i think it hasn't been "said", but Summer Bird works in a breeding farm so that's why she knows. i think.Calypso wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 4:07 pmInteresting - has it been said if it's a fertility issue or a performance problem?Summer Bird wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:47 amHe’s been struggling getting mares in foal this year so I wonder if that’s part of the reason also.Northport wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 9:31 am Justify won’t be going back to Coolmore Australia. realistically though was there any chance he wouldn't be voted in? i know there's the whole discussion of like... he shouldn't have started in the Derby and all, but on paper he did win the Triple Crown and didn't test positive in the races that "mattered". not saying i agree or disagree with him being voted in but was there any chance he wouldn't?Psychotic Parakeet wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 7:20 pmThis needs to be pasted EVERYWHERE.
