Some people do try to get to the top of the game through numbers. The Ramsays are one, and the current Calumet kind of does it. Breed your stallions to everything with 4 legs, and hope that with a few hundred foals on the ground they win enough to get the stud's ranking up, and even moreso hope that lightning strikes and you get a Derby winner or something. (I know that nobody was really arguing for this, I just like analyzing different strategies and scenarios ) Inevitably though they end up with big bloated operations with so many poor runners that they can't afford to care for them all, and they end up getting sued for not paying training fees, etc.

This was also the Adena Springs method from 2000-2010-ish

Ramsey and his farm manager Mark Partridge were actually way more thoughtful with the mares they sent to Kitten's Joy. Yes, they claimed a lot of them, but they didn't claim just anything. They looked for specific sirelines, fillies with solid families (at least blacktype under the 3rd dams) and ones that may have run well early in their careers before dropping into the claiming ranks for one reason or another.

Now, what Ramsey has done to win owner titles at many meets is another story altogether. He would put lots of horses in claimers, even if they were good enough for allowance races, to get his numbers up.

i think we'll have to wait and see who he purchased for, but if it had been the Avengers it would have said "Donato Lanni for SF/Madaket/Starlight". i believe it was for Petersen tho.

does anyone know how Repole acts towards aftercare? a lot of horses there and obviously not all will be successful as racers... are they the "drop-them-in-the-claiming-ranks" type or do they oftenly retire their not so good horses to second careers?

I'm pretty sure Repole has a pretty good history with rehoming.

I mean he really didn't have to do that for Overdriven, for example.

"Maybe other people would have sold him, and he would have had a couple of more years (as a stallion)," Repole said. "But what happens when he's 11 or 14 or 16. I didn't want him out of my control and in a country where I would never know what happened to him. He was good to me as a racehorse, and I gave him every opportunity. Now I want to be sure he's cared for."

Repole first contacted Ford at New Vocations because he is already an avid supporter of the nonprofit founded in 1992 to rehabilitate and retrain ex-racehorses. Finding new homes for the horses is the primary goal, and more than 6,000 retired Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds have been placed since New Vocations' inception. The organization operates out of two facilities in Ohio, one near Lexington, one in Pennsylvania, and one in New York. Repole is a co-sponsor with Mrs. Paul Robsham of a new barn at the farm near Lexington, which is on the historic Mereworth Farm.

Micromanage was also sent to New Vocations from Rockridge Stud. His Giant Surprise was pensioned there last year and I imagine will probably stay there - he's probably lucky to be alive considering his leg so I don't think a second career is really in his future.

However if he suddenly starts sending Great White Martyr horses after all of this my view of him will plummet.
