And I was thinking yesterday that the AP's were a bit chilly this yesr. :O

Holy Wow. And here I was surprised at the $4.1 Curlin colt, although not so surprised it was Godolphin getting him. Then this girl comes along and blam - exactly twice the Curlin colt price.

Godolphin seems, IMO, to be willing to go far higher for colts -- aka stallion prospects -- than they do for fillies. It's also higher risk that the colt won't make it on the track, but those that do are such a higher payoff at stud that it apparently makes it worthwhile.

Whereas Mandy Pope goes for the fillies and broodmare prospects. In the interview she said that filly was the only horse at the sale that she really wanted. I'm taking that to mean when it came down to "OK, do I spend so much for this filly that I probably will not have enough left for the others I was thinking of?", she decided "Sure". Maybe Mandy's just willing to take higher risk on fillies than Godolphin is. That filly will have to practically be Beholder 2, AND produce some incredible foals for auction, before she pays back the $8.2 million cost and the future training + racing costs.

Which then makes me wonder wow how much would this girl have gone for if she had been on day 1, before Godolphin spent several million on other yearlings?

Same here! I had a sentence in my previous response to the effect that it seemed like the American Pharoah babies weren't doing as well as I'd expect given he had a G3 winner and G1+G2 placed and blacktype winners in his first crop. Looks like we hadn't had the right AP babies on the stand yet

The vendor of the Leslie's Lady filly said that it was the nicest looking foal that she's ever produced. Quite a contrast considering her foal (a colt?) last year went for less than $500,000, no? Though that one wasn't quite as good looking, and probably had lots of vetting issues.

Hahahahahaha I just got home and jumped on twitter and the first thing I saw was the hammer price of the AP/LL filly... just about fell over. Wow!!!!

Also, you know, happy she'll be with Mandy Pope. Hope she turns out to be one heck of a runner.

Oooops, that's what I get for not fact-checking. Coolmore hmm. I wonder if they'd race her or just go straight to breeding.

I'm impressed by her temperment. That was over six minutes of being on stage, with the loud noises coming from all directions including from behind, people calling out, and a new/strange person at her head. Most of them are on and off in a minute, maybe two.

But except for not wanting to get into 'the pose', she seemed mostly curious and not nearly as freaked out as some yearlings are. And she refused to be distracted by the "here focus and chew on this kid" lead antics around her face but instead kept looking out at the audience with interest.

I love watching the Keeneland handlers with the youngsters. There was one video from I think day 1, but it could have been highlights from a previous youngster-sale, where the yearling is starting to get wound up and the handler patted and then gently held its muzzle - and you could see the colt relax with this "It's OK I trust this person" response.

Just looked into it and Leslie's Lady's 2017 colt by Medaglia D'oro went unsold for $60,000 last year

In the interview posted on Twitter (link's a few posts back), Mandy Pope said (paraphrased) she wanted to race this one and that she hadn't yet had her own horses race in the Breeder's Cup and thought this filly would be the one for that. She has a training center now and this girl will be part of it.

The lad was a bit gangly, I'm afraid. On the surface it looks like he's probably just a late bloomer who will look better as he grows and develops, or maybe naturally thin, but breeders and buyers know about things like that, so I'm guessing he didn't vet well. He could also just be really hard to keep weight on.

Peter Brant signed the $360,000 ticket for Hip 100, a daughter of Kitten's Joy out of So Stylish (Johannesburg). That's good for papa.

Filly is from the family of One Cool Cat, Valoris, etc.

The $700K Kitten's Joy colt who sold today went to Shadwell. I think they've bought 2 or 3 by him.

Especially in Europe. They've proven that they can hold their own anywhere.

I had to check the results. They actually wound up with 4 KJs, the full to Bobby's Kitten, the $700K colt, another one for $325K who's from the family of Forestry and Cash Run, plus a filly for $100K, who was the cheapest horse Shadwell bought from Book 1. I would guess all of them will at least start their careers in Europe.

Was there some major issue with the KJ filly who's 1/2 to Lady of Fifty? She was listed as sold for $35K to Dixiana in what appears to be a buyback (partnership dissolution?). That seems exceptionally low and she wasn't an obvious trainwreck in the photos the consignor posted on social media.
