Thanks for that, there were 2 Harlingtons that I had no idea about. Wonder where the farms stallions end up. Would have assumed that this would be part of this, no? Or, perhaps deals already are in place.Flanders wrote:http://www.julydispersal.com/

It would be tragic if the remains of those horses were just paved over...and since it's hard to imagine that there's a buyer out there with pockets (and racing interest) deep enough to buy the whole farm, development of the land is a very real possibility.
Ta Wee? Dr. Fager? Surely great horses like that deserve to treated with respect.

It KILLS me to see a lovely mare like Harmony Lodge offered at a dispersal sale. At 16 years old, someone will buy her hoping to get a couple more foals out of her, and then what? The new owner doesn't feel a sense of loyalty to her -- so she gets sold again as each succisive owner tries to get 1 more foal. When she is 24 she is a used up brodmare who deserves a wonderful retirement -- but who is there to give her one?
I have seen it happen and my stomach knots up at the thought.
But that's life in the TB world.

I am with you 100%. It does indeed make me ill to think about it.Lord Helpus wrote:It KILLS me to see a lovely mare like Harmony Lodge offered at a dispersal sale. Harmony Lodge and her Speightstown filly went to Calumet for $315,000.
I'd like to think that's not a bad landing for her.

All that angst for nothing. She sold for a bunch of money and landed at one of the nicest farms in the Bluegrass.

No problem.
I was watching the sale and I was distracted more than once by the pedigree page not matching the horse in the ring.
Sometimes I find the excel sheets move just as I go to make a note.
