How common is this problem? I ask because a 3yr old gelding with obvious signs of the condition raced at Marquis Downs a couple of weeks ago. I was surprised he was on the track, but what do I know?

I've seen a few. Somewhat recently, Sway Away was Grade 2 placed and is at stud now.

Far more common in Saddlebreds than TBs for sure...

Awww. I loved Sway Away. That's a beautiful photo of him.

I have seen them on the track, but it isn't very common. Here's a DRF article that talks about Sway Away and sway backs in general.

Wasn't there a famous Australian racer that was a sway back? I can't find any info online about it, but I am sure there was a horse with that condition who did pretty well for himself Down Under.

The few sway backed horses that Ive seen were stone runners.

Agreed. And not just TB's. I know a QH http://www.equibase.com/profiles/Result ... registry=Q that had more of a sway back than Sway Away...man, he could FLY!
