Very upsetting that they don't have measures in place if something like this happens. I remember years ago when a horse I followed named Strolling Along died after he shuttled to Australia. I'm fairly certain that he didn't make it out of quarantine...
Wonder how things are set up here ???

I doubt that any quarantine facility has a fully equipped equine hospital on their grounds. Vets for treating the average ailments, sure...but for emergency surgeries? Sounds like that's unavailable. If anyone knows of a quarantine that does have a hospital, please correct me.
I think this incident reminds us why some owners may be reluctant to be "sporting," and ship their good horses all over the globe to race against the best in their division. Ascot, Dubai, Hong Kong, Japan, Oz...they all have some sort of quarantine regulations, some stricter than others. And wherever you ship, if it's more than a van ride, you could end up with a Bond Holder situation. Or the show jumper incident where the horse was actually euthanized midflight.
Thankfully, incidents like that, and Unbridled Belle's tragic loss, are infrequent (I think?), but still...shipping means the potential for danger to your horse. And it's danger over which you have little or no control. Maybe the money...or bragging rights and prestige...just isn't enough for some owners to run the risk with their horses.
