I will be following the Arrogate chestnut filly ( hip 552) with one of the fastest breeze times. Heard Bob’s associates were looking at her ( Donato Lanni and Michael Lund Petersen) last week. Who do you have your eye on? https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/a ... -thursday/

What is the point of running the two year olds this hard at a sales? Like can someone explain why it happened in the first place? Who saw these two year olds and though "ah yes let's make these babies go as hard as they can, even harder than races probably, before a sales what could possibly go wrong?"

I agree I wish they wouldn’t have the breeze ups. I wonder how many babies come out of the sale with injuries. The whipping also bothers me alot. It seems like a small amount t of time difference can mean hundreds of thousands of dollars difference.SukiSatsuki wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 8:38 pm What is the point of running the two year olds this hard at a sales? - Location: within 30 miles of your current location and proceeding rapidly. be warned.
I understand a buyer wanting to see the prospect under saddle at least galloping, but I don't see why it's necessary for them to run that hard at a sale.

Agree-a regular gallop should be fine. Saw a quote from one of the consignors that their horse “ had a bad day” when he breezed 10 and 3 for an eighth of a mile.

I'm shocked there's not many breakdowns.Squeaky wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 7:57 amI agree I wish they wouldn’t have the breeze ups. I wonder how many babies come out of the sale with injuries. Money. People wanted to see what they were buying, someone figured out if they made the horses run stupidly fast then they got more money for the fast ones.
I don't get the "making them run faster than they will ever run in a race" thing. But that isn't something a seller HAS to do, they can chose to just work them normally. I understand potential buyers wanting to see the horses work. The first 2yo sale isn't until mid/late March, at that point 2yos have already been posting workouts at tracks and are going to be racing by beginning of April.

I know she has bought horses for Baffert before but also Doug O'Neill. Bolton/Lipman/etc. partnership and Phoenix Thoroughbred for US owners, at least. She also works with international trainers.Squeaky wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 4:54 pmNew sale topper sold to agent Kerri Radcliffe for 1 M. Anyone know who she buys for ( owner/ trainer)? They've done well keeping identity of owner a secret. The article says no trainer selected and interested trainers can call her if they want to train the filly.Squeaky wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 7:30 pm Says bought for new London owner first time in racing- JDL Capital Sarl - anyone have any info? I'm old enough to remember when this wasn't the case. 2 yr olds in training sales just galloped the horses so buyers could see how they moved. Somewhere along the way things changed to letting them breeze an eighth of a mile. When the fastest breezers starting bringing top dollar that's when things started getting crazy. Sellers pushing these babies to go faster and faster chasing the big bucks.SukiSatsuki wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 8:38 pm What is the point of running the two year olds this hard at a sales? I was trying to recall when this all started. I remember Unbridled's Song selling for over a million dollars in California as a two yr old in 1995. I don't think they were breezing horses then. I think they were still just galloping them. The Green Monkey sold for $16,0000 in 2006. So maybe sometime between 1995-2006 the crazy idea of breezing them faster than they'll ever run in a race started.

UBS worked :10 1/5, its what made him the buzz horse for that Barrett's Sale. I tried to find the answer before but all I found was breeze up sales started in the USA in the 70s but like you said they were not doing the all out for a furlong. I haven't found when that started yet and maybe I won't because I don't even know what to search.PONYRCR wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 12:02 pmI'm old enough to remember when this wasn't the case. 2 yr olds in training sales just galloped the horses so buyers could see how they moved. Her digital certificate is still assigned to Fasig Tiption, so she most likely isn't at a trainer yet or it would have switched and she is unnamed.Squeaky wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2023 5:30 pmAny idea who this filly is going to be trained by and if they have named her?SukiSatsuki wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 4:47 amThink she's going to baffert?bare it all wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 9:51 pm
