I suppose that's fair. I think it depends on perspective and definition of what makes a good broodmare or not.Retrospectiv wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 3:57 pm Given the creme de la creme of sires the whole clan have been bred to over their careers, they've been a largely disappointing and under performing bunch. I stand by my initial post.
7 daughters at stud, and you've got two Gr 2 winners, 1 Gr 3 winner and 1 ungraded stakes winner.
To me, Vertigineaux having 2 G1Ws puts her in the elite top 0.1-0.05% of mares that have been in the stud book (statistically, a mare with her race record had a 0.2% chance of producing a single G1W, much less 2). Comparing another mare to her as a standard of a "good" mare is incredibly harsh.
Statistically, stakes winning mares produce 2.2% graded stakes winners. A simple winner has a 0.8% chance of producing graded stakes winners. So unplaced mare Treasure Trail is actually far OUT PERFORMING her peers, with a graded stakes winner under her belt. Stakes winner Where's Bailey, if she produced say 10 foals, would have a 22% chance of one of them being a graded stakes winner. A low chance, but she did it. Unraced Harley Rose (unraced mares produce 3.6% stakes winners), if she were to have 10 foals, would have a 36% chance of producing a stakes winner. She got a stakes winner in her first foal.
Eblouissante, being a race winner like her dam, would only have a 5.6% chance of having produced a graded stakes winner at this point (I think she has 7 foals of racing age). She has obviously accomplished that, and again far out performed the statistics.
So I guess it depends on your definition of performance. Compared to their dam, they have under performed (again I would argue that is an extremely high barometer, but I suppose it stands). But compared to the hard numbers, they have actually performed VERY well.
As far as the stallions go, Into Mischief produced 3.59% graded stakes winner from runners (iirc I think only 70% or so of foals make it to the track, so his graded stakes winner from foals is probably under 3%). War Front produced 3.7% GSWs from runners, again probably no more than 3% from all foals. So War Front + Treasure Trail has a really low chance of producing anything, but she now has a GSW, and a stakes placed foal.
Looking at the hard numbers, to me they are performing just fine.
