I've read he wouldn't breed to grey mares. I know Seattle Slew had a fondness for grey mares.

War Emblem never had a foal with a chestnut mare and only 2 foals to grey mares. He seemed to have like dkb or black mares the best but also had quite a few foals with bay mares.
