I saw a few familiar names there (like Special Fighter, Faulkner, Romansh, Layl), but I wonder what will happen to some of those older formerly high-class horses.
I saw quite a few "Horse not to be used for breeding purposes in the UAE" notes for many of the intact horses. I wonder why those particular horses can't be stood in the UAE?

I know Godolphin usually uses UAE horses in training sales as one of their outlet to sell younger (ie. 5 and under) horses who aren't making the grade, with plenty going on to have success at Meydan and other local UAE tracks.
However, it is really disappointing to see horses 7+ years old and/or not suitable to race, for sale in here. Sorry, but almost every horse racing at Meydan is owned by a Sheikh of some kind. I cannot imagine that horse racing is a sport for even the middle class in the UAE, you have to have some kind of wallet to afford a string of horses anywhere, especially in a desert. You're telling me that the guys (and they are all guys) who own these horses can't cough up a couple thousand dollars to ship them to England, Ireland, Australia, USA, etc. to have them retrained or retired somewhere with paddocks and a more rural setting where owning a riding horse is much more common than Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
There's a lot of familiar names on that list, and I can't imagine that they are going to find much of a soft landing in the local area, unless a riding club or school takes them on.

I am curious as to what makes these guys "unsuitable for breeding in the UAE." What breeding is there in the UAE anyway?
Also I was under the impression Godolphin had a generally good retraining/rehoming program. I saw an article last year about how some of their runners have gone on to be horses for falconers.
Why not try to sell some of these pretty talented and intact guys, like Romansh, abroad?

Wish we knew why they have the breeding-in-UAE prohibition. Is it perhaps something in import/export such that these were imported for racing only and therefore bypassed a test or documentation required of horses imported for breeding purposes? Some provision in the studbook that these are violating? Anyone see any hints as to what those banned-from-breeding horses have in common?
That sort of begs the question of, if the horse ineligible for breeding in UAE is purchased, exported to (for example) Ireland and stands at stud there - are its offspring going to be eligible to be imported into UAE for racing or breeding? Could a club from the US buy Romansh, bring him to Kentucky and try to stand him there?
My take on it, from casual reading - and not to defend anyone dumping a horse! - is that this is their version of the "Racehorses in Training" sale except for a few that have reached the forced-retirement age. Godolphin's website lists about half of those horses as theirs in the sale, and gives the impression you can buy one and race it right away (barring age or the like).

Godolphin used to have mares foal in the UAE back in the early-mid 2000s. Godolphin does have a good retraining/rehoming program for horses that end their careers at Godolphin, but most of the older horses in this sale haven't been owned by Godolphin for several years. Regardless, one of these multimillionaires/billionaires, Godolphin or otherwise, should step up.
