Book is online now. Hip 383 is the War Front- Havre De Grace. The owner does like to put horses in sales though and not sell them but this is a colt so maybe she does sell him. If you pay $10 million for the mare why would you sell the colt though unless you need cash? Isn't the owner some heiress? This looks like nothing more than a stunt of an owner.

She's keeping the option open. A lot of people enter horses just in case you decide to sell, particularly in the November sales (with racehorses who could get injured and retired in the interim between entry and the sale).

If the entries to the sales didn't have to be so far out in advance, fewer would be entered and subsequently scratched.

You can't continue to dump the amount of money into an industry and not see any returns. She has sold some yearlings or tried to. Last year Plum Pretty's colt was a RNA at $725,000, and she sold Betterbetterbetter's War Front filly for $1.45 million.
Mandy Pope and her brother own Variety Wholesalers, which operate a bunch of dollar stores(like Dollar General) across the south.
I do not think she sells the Havre De Grace though. I heard she is very attached to the mare and her foals.

As far as I've heard, she isn't the big name owner that isn't paying her bills who spent big money last night.

I'm fairly certain I read that her intention was always to sell most of the foals her mares produced and race the ones that didn't sell. However, she has become attached to some of them and that is the reason she withdraws them. There is nothing wrong with that either. But I doubt she has a neverending supply of money so as her broodmare band grows, i'm sure we will see more left in the sales.

If there is a 1% possibility they want to sell the horse they have to be in the sale to sell. And there is a big difference in entering the sale and showing up in the catalog vs. shipping a horse in to show, and then running thru the ring when you never intend on selling.

As for naming a yearling, that doesn't matter at all to anyone...buyer, seller or consignor.

As HB said, and I'd posted earlier, owners do this to have the option of selling. As for Pope, she originally said she was going to sell, but it's now changed to selling colts and keeping fillies. In addition, she's fallen in love with the offspring of Grace so she's waffling on parting with them.

She can well afford this right now.

He raced Second Summer, which now makes a little more sense why he sold him privately overseas.

With the way the late Scat Daddy's offspring are running all over the world, I suspect that any yearlings with four legs and a head are going to sell high.
The Ahh yearling interests me, too. Because Saint Liam.
