The Ontario Gaming Commission has implemented several new rules that go into effect immediately. The rules are aimed at trying to prevent breakdowns. They have resulted in a lot of scratches because horses are not eligible to race back this quickly.

With all of the debate around footing, it is a real shame that something in the Tapeta at Woodbine has gone wrong. One of the benefits and main advertising points of synthetic was how much easier it was on horses and how they could race back much faster, these new rules throw that right out the window.

It was one of the safest surfaces on the continent up until a month ago. The temperature up here has been pretty consistent. Getting colder but no major swings in temp, no crazy rainfall. It's just bizarre and really the last thing the sport needs. It isn't like these are all sketchy nickel claimers that are breaking down.
