I don't know if this is in the right category, but I came across this specific horse called Shashashakemeup, who hasn't raced since August 2021, yet he is still having workouts at Santa Anita (Most recent one was June 29th). Why would he still be having workouts for almost 3 years but not have a race?
Also, most people know of Zilkha, Zenyatta's filly. She is 4 years old now, and hasn't raced yet but has been working out at Santa Anita (most recent June 29th). Do you think she'll race?
Finally, is Zenyatta's other daughter Zellda retired to being a broodmare, and if so, where?

Shashashakemeup is one of those poor horses that whoever owns him is trying to bring him back after 3 years which is absolutely disgusting. He has only had those 3 works in the past 2 years(Equibase only shows the previous 24 months if there is anything to show). Don't know who is training him, the trainer listed is East Coast based. Unless somehow he is back with Miller...
As for Zilkha any of the time Shirreffs has started working her in back to back weeks it only lasts a couple times they she disappears for a bit. I wouldn't expect her to race unless she starts posting weekly workouts for 6 to 8 weeks in a row. But IMO time is running out, I just can't see her staying in training at 5 if she hasn't started by then and showed something.
Zellda's at Lane's End. She has a Twirling Candy yearling colt and had a Justify colt this year.

So they broke from the “Z” names. They weren’t having much luck with them.brunanas wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 12:35 pmNymue (yearling by War Front) is her last.Curtis wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 11:59 amIs Zilkha the last of the Zenyatta’s?Flanders wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 8:26 am Shashashakemeup is one of those poor horses that whoever owns him is trying to bring him back after 3 years which is absolutely disgusting. They might have even better luck if she goes to a different trainer too.

Nymue will never race.
If they've not managed to get any of the other fillies into the starting to gate, it'll absolutely never happen with the babied last one
Zentatta has got to go down as possibly the worst high profile brodmare in decades.

Well, I've been pretty convinced for a long time now that Zenyatta's connections have had little to no interest in actually racing any of her offspring, since her first two, both colts, failed in their afternoon ventures, and then right after that, losing the two War Fronts tragically.. Add to that the flooding of social media that accompanied all of that. Why they even bothered to put the two surviving girls into training is a question that I admittedly have no answer to. I know that Zellda had an injury issue, but I still don't understand why it took them until well into her 5yo year to officially retire her.......and it really appears that Zilkha is headed to the same end. Nymue just had her actual 1st birthday last month, so who knows what's going to happen with her. But a pattern is definitely a pattern.Retrospectiv wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 4:26 pm Nymue will never race.

I think that to say that Zenyatta is maybe the worst high profile broodmare in decades is a little harsh. She's only had four foals so far to reach racing age, and only two of them started, even with no success. She lost two foals who didn't survive their first year of life, which is certainly not her fault, and lost two foals in utero. I think it's just a little unfair to judge her so harshly.

I ADORED The Big Mare...but I did not have unrealistic expectations when it came to her prospects as a broodmare.
She is such an outlier physically. So big she dwarfed her competition, even taller and heavier than most of her male opponents. If breeders tend to hide the stats on over-seventeen-hand studs, I imagine working on the breeding prospects of a 17.2-hand mare may have been a real challenge.
Trying to find a stallion to complement her was going to be a tall task (pun intended), and it is not surprising that it hasn't worked out as hoped.

Even before she retired, I Ihought that her impact would be more from her fillies' offspring because of that size.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 7:55 pm I ADORED The Big Mare...but I did not have unrealistic expectations when it came to her prospects as a broodmare.
