Does anybody care that this track is closing down after the last race this afternoon?
Does anybody even know that it's closing down after the last race this afternoon
Does history mean anything to anybody?

I think we all care....but feel helpless now seeing another track shut down.

I haven’t been there in quite some time and wanted to get down there before today but couldn’t make it work. Two of the fastest 10f races ever run on dirt were 1:58.20 by Noor in the 1950 Golden Gate Handicap, with Citation in the beaten field, and by Quack in the 1972 Hollywood Gold Cup. Noor set a NWR at the time and after Quack equalled it, the co-WR stood until Spectacular Bid lowered it to 1:57.60 in the 1980 Strub Stakes. The tracks Noor and Quack sped over to make their record runs will both be no more as of this evening. History can be sad.

Yes to all three of your questions, but I can’t bear to think about the horses and the people. How many jobs are being lost?

It could work out okay………maybe. Pleasanton is set to tentatively take its place. Being that it’s a county fairgrounds track, it probably doesn’t have much in the way of permanent staff. For the horses and horse people, it’s just a different route on the traveling circus. Of course if Team Stronach gets their way, all no. CA racing goes away.

I went there once, loved it. Wish this sport could sustain these smaller tracks, they really are the foundation.
