i post about this horse quite a lot in the Older Horses thread but i thought it's about time he gets his own. maybe this would be more fitting in the Horse Followings category but this will get more views here and he needs views and attention. it's unbelievable that this horse is still racing.
'Worst-Kept Secret' Bezos Set for Long-Awaited Debut

"I've been around this sport for some time, and I can't recall a horse making it into the Kentucky Derby futures pool without getting into the starting gate for his first race," said co-owner Jack Wolf of Starlight Racing. Bezos was installed at odds of 26-1 in Pool 2 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager when it closed Jan. 24.

you guys probably remember him from before his debut as a lot of people were high on him (as you can see by the article above). but he couldn't really run. he faded badly on debut but then ran away from a mediocre field second time out and apparently that was enough to send him straight to the Gr. III Stonestreet Lexington. and then he stopped badly again (see the replay here — he's the #3 horse). after that he was moved to Brisset, and 3 starts later he was tossed into the Claiming ranks after constantly stopping badly (because that's what a $400,000 purchase by one of the biggest ownership groups deserves, i guess. not like they can afford to retire him). and he's still racing almost two years later, stopping 99% of the time, almost finishing all his races eased up. he's entered again tomorrow (Race 7 @ Belmont At The Big A) having had just one work since his last start (9/16). his current trainer is 0 for 13 this year (14 for 424 lifetime). here are all of his performances:
also a reminder that he isn't the only high priced yearling owned by millionaires that end up in a situation like this because if they aren't making money/turning themselves into a stallion prospect, who cares?

overall record — 23: 3-1-0, beaten 265 total lengths. TWO HUNDRED SIXTY FIVE. this just breaks my heart. no horse should end up in a situation like this one but in his case this could have been so easily avoided if his owners — who can very well retire him and should have done so after his performance in the Lexington — had done the right thing by him. and i am sure they know he's still racing because i'm not the only one who talks about him on Twitter and such and they have been tagged in posts talking about his current status (do they get so many notifications that it gets buried every single time?). his new connections (and those who had him before he got claimed by them) should also know better than to keep racing him. i understand the rule of multiple lenghts in consecutive starts but the NYRA should have a way to put a stop to this before Bezos drops dead on the track. there is no way he doesn't have issues that were/are being swept under the rug.7Feb21, MSW [6½ furlongs]: 3¹ —3hd — 4⁵ — 7¹⁵, "faded";
