He laid down in the snow today and couldn’t get up. The Vet came and it was time. He didn’t suffer. Thank you to all that asked after him over the years. Border was a good boy!

I am so sorry for your loss. This made me cry, as my old guy was opposite. He tried to lay down to roll in the snow and couldn’t. I kept watching him until he finally just threw himself down, and then struggled to get back up. I knew it was time.
Thank you for the love you gave him and a dignified end with those that loved him around him.

I'm so sorry, Curtis. You are an angel, giving that old son of Secretariat a loving home for so many years. Thank you.
We can only dream now, envisioning him running free with his sire.

Yes everything already posted-very sorry- you really took such excellent care of him for so many years. It is hard to lose an old friend. My sincerest sympathies. Have the other horses reacted to his loss?

We’re down to one—our Daughter’s old show horse, a QH named Harley. He actually tried to get Border up this morning but it wasn’t going to happen. Harley is soon to be 19. I might foster a horse near that age. We’ve got goats as well. Harley’s just about the sweetest thing on four legs. You can lead him with dental floss. I can’t give horses up though so some way or another we’ll provide him with companionship.

Last December 23rd we had to euthanize Anniversary Year. I can empathize with Elvis’s “Blue Christmas.” A.Y. and Border were joined at the hip. I’m guessing they’re grazing side by side.

You always know that day is coming, but you never think it is going to be today. I was just telling a friend Sunday about Border Run's story; I'm not sure she realized there were any surviving offspring.

So sorry for your loss. I had to put down my heart dog on Wednesday and at times the pain is unbearable.

before i go to sleep i'll ask my laila to show him around the rainbow bridge and to be his best friend over there. i am so sorry for your loss. if this is of any comfort i promise it gets better eventually, she's been gone for a year and a half (yesterday [20th] marked that date actually) and although i obviously still miss her, most of my thoughts are happy memories. laila was truly my soulmate and i know it's an absolutely terrible pain.

Border boy won the lottery the day you two met.
Or, was it the other way around?
Who rescued who?
No matter, it's a beautiful life you enjoyed together, congrats on a job well done

So very sorry for the loss of your beloved pet and friend. When my heart dog died I found a support group that was helpful. Grieving takes time. Giving you a hug and sending healing thoughts.
