Great ride (she also nearly hit the outside rail when she was warming up!) to keep her going, especially when the saddle slipped in the stretch... and when she didn't want to pull up, either!

That was Phar Lapesque—at least in the execution.

If they let her run again. See the posts in the Siblings thread.

I'm guessing she has the red flag in her tail because she kicks as well?

Now just imagine the win margin if she'd run straight.

Watching that replay I half expected her to jump the rail. I've seen at least a handful of races (mostly National Hunt) where you think "they can't possibly drift any further? right?? then they plow through the rail

If we can give her the same aptitude examination that Trump keeps bragging about, she'll be back on the track in no time

Spot on! :D

-- post-race comments:

Yoichi Kuroiwa (trainer):

''I'm far from happy with her victory today. It's only consoling to think that she didn't interfere other horses and no one was injured after all.(it could have been a lot worse).''
''I knew she was a filly who had both huge talent and bad habit through her workouts. Now I will try hard to solve her problems over time. I'm very sorry (for what's happened today).''

''I purchased her at the sale mainly with a hope that she would become our foundation broodmare in the long run.
So I have considered an option to make her a broodmare right now.
But we will do our best to correct her bad habits in view of her re-examination first.
She is only 2yo and 7 months.
Thanks for all the comments and words of encouragement.''

Yes, I also like the connections. I'm relieved to hear they will give her a chance to correct her behaviours before turning her into a broodmare.

Considering her mama pulled similar moves are her bad habits behavioral or genetic? And I do love that they are giving her a chance to correct her behavior first. With her bloodlines they certainly could say awe forget it and breed her...but I love that they are giving her time...wish more connections had that kind of patience

Well since it has come through the Tapit as well, I would say it is a genetic issue. Also, remember the broodmare is the first behavior a foal learns to mimic so bad actors and nervous ones tend to have bad actors and nervous progeny.

The biggest issue with Japanese breeding would be they already have a ton of pretty hot blood through the Halo influence so they might manage to breed an incredibly fast but completely intractable strain.

I'd say that problem is personified in Gold Ship. Here's hoping they never send this filly to him :?

Part of me would want them to, for science (although watch the genetic lottery end up with a bombproof plodder) but the largest part of me definitely doesn't want that to happen

They might have to be creative with her. However if she usually drifts to the right, mayhaps the solution would be in training and running her mostly right-handed rather than left-handed?

I'm wondering if they will try blinkers (or partial, just the right side cup) with her...

I don't think she was misbehaving at all. The reason why she run to the right is because the saddle slipped. She has more pressure on her left side (leg lower than on the right). That's why she went to the outside. An older more experienced horse maybe would have ignored that, she just felt the leg on the left side push more and went to the right. Pulling up with a slipped saddle is a challenge too. She's just a baby and didn't know what to do really. She should be fine.

Very smart observation - you're clearly a horsewoman.

She tried running off in her training session prior to the race, in the post parade of the race and she pretty much ran off after the start of the race as well. The saddle slipped secondary to the antics and ye, didn't help the situation.
