I was shocked to see that on BloodHorse and at DRF earlier today. Heartbreaking, and a terrible shame.
I didn't really know that much about him until the Kings Bishop, but I sure took a shining to him after that brave race.
Poor guy seemed to have a bit of trouble on the turns, but took off like a rocket on the tangents. He was still learning,
and from one of the best teachers...

Condolences to Mr. Shirreffs, and to the Mr. and Mrs. Moss, and to everyone who took care of him.

I was waiting for the In Memoriam thread to be restarted but here is as good as any.

To say I am heartbroken is not enough... Just devastated. I loved this boy.. And thought he was going to be John's next star... And a sprinter at that! A life cut way too short...

So so sad. What a beautiful, talented boy. So much potential there. Definitely once of the tougher losses lately, though they are all tough.

I first became aware of this gorgeous horse when he ran in the King's Bishop: He stood out because of how beautiful he was and he ran a really good race. His name is also unusual. When I read he broke down and was euthanized I felt heartbroken. So much potential. I feel so very sad. RIP. Condolences to his connections who I know must be heartbroken.

Thank you for those words, Man o Taz. I wish that Shirreffs would move his string elsewhere. But, of course, I realize, breakdowns can happen anywhere.

You are quite welcome and I wish the NYRA would take better care of their race tracks.

I am glad Mr. Shirreffs is in the east so I can see more of his horses in person.

What are your suggestions? I'm curious to know what you think they're doing 'wrong' right now, and what they can do better.

Does this mean that Shirreffs wouldnt have sent a sore horse out to the track every morning to train if he had been on the west coast still?

This is not a great photo by any means but I took this at saratoga when we were lucky enough to see Mentir Cane in person. Man, he was a gorgeous boy. RIP Mentor Cane.

Sigh - can't seem to get the photo to upload. I see it in the draft, but not in the post. Help!
