A suspected case of equine herpesvirus (EHV-1) has caused officials at the Maryland Jockey Club to place a Hold Order on Barn 16 at the Bowie Training Center as a precautionary measure. The Maryland Department of Agriculture is awaiting results of tests to determine if a horse stabled in the barn, who was euthanized this morning, was infected.

Hopefully not that. Per PR initial tests are negative, so samples now sent to second lab.

The name Bowie brings back memories. I used to live up there once upon a time, and frequently took the road going past the track on my way to work.

MJC released this late last night:
The preliminary test came up negative. There is no trace of the virus in Clonmeen Lass, the horse in question.

The test will be sent to Rusty Ford, the equine programs manager for the Kentucky State Veterinarian’s office for confirmation. We expect to know Tuesday evening, Sept. 24 or Wednesday morning, Sept. 25.

Maryland Jockey Club racing secretary Georganne Hale said the Hold Order remains in place until the situation has been rectified.
H/t to Lydia Williams for reposting the info on her FB page.

From Brisnet

Blood samples on the Bowie Training Center-based horse that was humanely euthanized by the Maryland Department of Agriculture Saturday morning were negative for equine herpesvirus (EHV-1). The Hold Order on Barn 16 at Bowie has been lifted, meaning the 27 horses stabled in the barn will be allowed to train beginning Wednesday morning.
