Along with being the dam of Scylla, Tacitus and Batten Down, Close Hatches is a full sister to SW Lockdown - the dam of Idiomatic!

What a current family.
Close Hatches was a helluva racehorse, Lockdown was pretty good too. Not surprised to see them producing more of the same.

I love how easy it is to pick him out from the crowd. I love how white he is already as a 3 year old!

Grateful (Galileo - Tepin, by Bernstein) becomes the first winner for her dam, she is Tepin's only starter to date.

I met Rob Masterson at the Preakness this year and was telling him how big of a fan I was of Tepin. He was like “wasnt she incredible! She could win anywhere. She’s a dud as a broodmare but man could she run!”

I find it hard to call a mare a dud when she only had 3 foals of racing age and a 2yo. And her first 2 were bred as 3yos, so not like they gave them time.

If she's a dud at stud. You can only blame the people who picked the stallions she was bred to, since she didn't pick her own mates. Too many modern mares get blamed for not producing when they had no choice in who they were bred to, instead of the stallion who didn't work with her. I wonder why?!?

Full brother to Breeder’s Cup champ Bar of Gold, dam is GSW Khancord Kid. This is his third straight stakes win and first start of the year. He’s turned into a nice horse!
Spirit of St. Louis won the Kingston S at Saratoga today for his fourth stakes win in a row. He’s won 7 of 9 starts and finished second in the other two.

I’m guessing she’s not going to be a sprinter.

I don’t even know if Sea the Stars progeny can even be entered in races shorter than 7f

Out of curiosity, I just looked it up. He has 5 winners from 61 runners over 5f and 6f. From 12 crops. Compared to 281 wins from 1819 runs over 7f-9f and 309 from 1739 over 10f to 12f.

You know what youre signing up for if youre sending a mare to him!

I was taking a look at Eblouissante's foals.

Confidence Game (by Candy Ride) is entered in an AOC at Churchill Downs on the 14th. He hasn't won since the Rebel in 2023.

The Process (by More Than Ready) is entered in an allowance at Horseshoe Indianapolis on the 13th. Hasn't won since his debut in 2023.

Her 2022 colt by Speightstown, recently named Total Sensation, has started recording works at Saratoga.

She has a 2023 filly by Mclean's Music (only her second filly!) and it doesn't look like she was bred for a 2024 foal.
