wasn't she the turf mare who always ran with her head up like she was rank? or was actually rank? been a while now so i've forgotten a bit.Northport wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 1:20 pm Wendla (Ulysses x Intercontinental, by Danehill) won the Al Shira'aa Racing "Mutamakina" Stakes (Group 3) over a mile at Leopardstown today.
Intercontinental was a duel G1 winner and winner of the 2005 BC Filly and Mare Turf. She is, of course, out of the wonderful Hasili. Being a 2000 model, I would guess Wendla was her last foal.

I just watched that 2005 BC F&M Turf and you're right. I had forgotten how she would run with her head high in the air, but rank or not, there was no beating her in that wire job she did that year. And there was a pretty good one back in second trying to catch her......Ouija Board!sweettalk wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 5:42 pmwasn't she the turf mare who always ran with her head up like she was rank? or was actually rank? been a while now so i've forgotten a bit.Northport wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 1:20 pm Wendla (Ulysses x Intercontinental, by Danehill) won the Al Shira'aa Racing "Mutamakina" Stakes (Group 3) over a mile at Leopardstown today.

In my head, Rich Strike had a pretty shabby pedigree but I just took another look at the page and it's not bad at all!Flanders wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 10:12 am Neecie Marie, 2020 f (Cross Traffic - Lode Lady, by Posse) won the G3 Beaugay yesterday. Her dam is a 1/2 to Rich Strike.

His dam Gold Strike is a Canadian champion, he's a half-brother to GSW Llanarmon, and then it looks like Neecie Marie was already a SW for Lode Lady by that point.
Of course, winning the Kentucky Derby is certainly a nice page update

Ouija Board was remarkable for sure! She just had a crazy run in that race! She won it at Lone Star in 2004, finished 2nd to Intercontinental at Belmont in 2005, and won it again at Churchill in 2006. She remains the only filly or mare to win the race twice, and that was in non-consecutive years!sweettalk wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 2:45 pmouija was easily one of my fave mares, and yet i forgot they raced against each other lol. went back to also watch the race once you mentioned it. good racing memories!Missbeholder wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 6:16 pmI just watched that 2005 BC F&M Turf and you're right. One that gets lost in that 3-year series in that race was Film Maker, for Graham Motion I believe. She finished one place behind Ouija Board in all three runnings........2nd in 2004, 3rd in 2005, and 2nd again in 2006! Quite an amazing accomplishment for her as well, even with no photo taken!

Mc Vay (Constitution- Dothraki Sea, by Union Rags), whose last 3 races have been in CA graded stakes, won a MSW yesterday at Santa Anita (his 6th race). His third dam is BC Juvenile winner and Champion 2 YO Phone Chatter. He's a handsome boy (I guess if you sell for $1.25M as a yearling you should be):

He is another one of those horses that I thought already broke his maiden since he ran in those three stakes races prior to thisfirehorse wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2024 12:41 pm Mc Vay (Constitution- Dothraki Sea, by Union Rags), whose last 3 races have been in CA graded stakes, won a MSW yesterday at Santa Anita (his 6th race). Winterfell, son of Arrogate for Bob and the Avengers, finished second. Hope he wins next time after gradual improvement in each of his maiden races.firehorse wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2024 12:41 pm Mc Vay (Constitution- Dothraki Sea, by Union Rags), whose last 3 races have been in CA graded stakes, won a MSW yesterday at Santa Anita (his 6th race). I just noticed that the horse in last, Magnify, is Stellar Wind's colt by Justify.... his first race, but he was coming off a really good 5f work so think there's hope.Squeaky wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2024 1:12 pmWinterfell, son of Arrogate for Bob and the Avengers, finished second.
