Batten Down (Tapit x Close Hatches) won the 1 3/16-mile Bourbon Flight Stakes for 3yos at Churchill with open-length ease. I don't know where he goes next, but he's in fine form now.

I think that was a track record at 9.5f.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 3:59 pm Batten Down (Tapit x Close Hatches) won the 1 3/16-mile Bourbon Flight Stakes for 3yos at Churchill with open-length ease. I don't know where he goes next, but he's in fine form now.

Wonder what happened to Muth in the California Crown? He looked like he was making a bid on the far turn and then JJ stopped riding him and he just started to drop back. He finished the race though, from what I saw.

I wasn't going to bother ranting, until I read that Sept 26 article just now. Two days ago he was looking good, but today he says the horse hadn't been training well?Izvestia wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 7:59 pmAbsolutely they knew. Why even bother. His below par run in the Travers was over a month ago, so now they decide to give him a once over?
He's that trainer/ownership group's horse of a lifetime, that whole line of reasoning just doesn't make a ton of sense.
Bizarre. Oh well, looking forward to another 4-5 horse field of older horses in the Woodward and California Crown next year. And 45 Dornoch yearlings at KEESEPT27.

Confused on how Muth still got a Equibase speed figure in the hundreds when he finished dead last, beaten almost 16 lengths and never posed a real real threat.

I've noticed on Equibase, the speed figures for West coast tracks are much higher than the rest of the country. I've had friends ship a couple of horses to the East Coast and poof, their speed figures go down.Essential Quality wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 9:45 pm Confused on how Muth still got a Equibase speed figure in the hundreds when he finished dead last, beaten almost 16 lengths and never posed a real real threat.
That's the one thing that came to mind.

Yeah Equibase numbers are nonsense and best ignored.
Muth didn’t really get position on the first turn, got caught a little wide, and just didn’t seem to have it. His last effort didn’t really suggest that he’d be competitive here, and chances are pretty good that this was the last time we’ll see him, unfortunately.

There is a video of him in the saddling area on Twitter. He looked dull and walking awkwardly like he was sore.CoronadosQuest wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 7:52 pm Wonder what happened to Muth in the California Crown? I wouldn't be surprised if he gets retired after that effort because he is a Good Magic colt, and Zedan wants to recoup some money in the breeding shed.
I wanna do bad things with you.
