Highland Falls (Curlin) debuts in the 7th at Ellis next Saturday. The 3YO colt is the last foal from Round Pond, as she didn't get i/f again. It was subsequently noted she has been pensioned. Provisional (Justify) also debuts there. He's a 1/2 brother to Arrogate.

i was hoping Zenyatta would replicate herself, but... for Reasons, she didn't. i'm very, very happy Beholder has seen success as broodmare. at least one of my girls has, added bonus, my mum loves Beholder, and as my mum is recovering from a stroke, she needs these kinds of wins.

excited to see her and her half sister run again!

Paradise Lane was scratched out of the race, which was won by Memorialize (Karakontie).
All racing at Del Mar has been cancelled today (8/20) due to the expected storms coming courtesy of Hurricane Hillary.

Awakened (Curlin/Daydreaming) won the G1 Jonathan Sheppard at Saratoga. Probably not the G1 the Phippses were hoping for when they did that mating, but the horse's owners are likely happy with it.

He was purchased by Riverdee Stable as a jumps prospect a couple years ago. Phipps horses have done well for trainer Jack Fisher in recent years with Snap Decision and Proven Innocent also winning big at Saratoga.

Jimmy P (Slumber x My Love Venezuela by Scat Daddy) finished 2nd in the Sheppard, while later in the card his full brother Sy Dog was 2nd in the John's Call :) That's a family that likes some distance!

In a sad note for this one, Burning Bright [Empire Maker x Forever Together] died from a cardiac event during R7 at Saratoga today :( RIP and sending prayers to Luis Saez who dislocated his right collar bone and has a slight fracture of his left wrist.

Ultra Power [Curlin x Unique Bella] and Guy Named Joe [American Pharoah x Hungry Island] race in the 4th at Del Mar here shortly. Ultra Power looks so much like his momma.

The upcoming 4th at Del Mar, a 6 1/2-furlong MSW for 2yos on the dirt, has some nicely-bred youngsters, including Guy Named Joe (American Pharoah x Hungry Island) and Ultra Power (Curlin x Unique Bella). the Name Ultra Power is a wee bit pretentious, but I have to root for a son of the beautiful and fast Unique Bella. :P

won by Rothschild (Uncle Mo - Still There, by Union Rags). First foal of Still There, who was a SW/G1p (she finished 2nd in the 2018 Ballerina). Kind of surprising to see Yakteen training a horse for that ownership group. Guy Named Joe was 5th and Ultra Power was 6th of 6.

Yakteen trains their 2nd string and Brittany Russell trains their 3rd string (and improves them off Baffert ;)). it's not common but they have a few horses with him. though off this performance i don't know if he is still considered 2nd string.
