“The best is probably still to come”.
Weird thing to say.

He looked okay, definitely did not win as easy as it seems like he should have, but maybe he needed the race.

I’ve heard Brad Free say that before. It’s fairly innocuous. It’s saying something without really saying anything.

Guessing it was a weird way to say that he needed the race and that this race was just shaking the rust off after a long layoff.

Muth didn't win by as much as I thought he would but maybe he really was just rusty.

An interesting development with Thielen. He is sired by Curlin out of Angele Renee (Bernardini). He was racing in maiden special weights, and has now dropped down into a maiden claimer for $16k in R8 at Colonial Downs tomorrow. Considering his pedigree and was a $1.7 million purchase, that is pretty crazy. In the same race, there is Oconee Life, a son of Cairo Prince out of Biofuel (Stormin Fever). Biofuel was Canadian Horse of the Year and a Champion 2 & 3 Year Old Filly. Might be worth watching where they both end up.
I wanna do bad things with you.

Like Snaafi Dancer and The Green Monkey, things don’t always go to plan.

Heartland (Justify half to Classic Empire) retired after his maiden win at Del Mar 2023 (I think), quotes like "We always thought he was a GI horse." I saw him break his maiden impressively--left at the start, charged up to win--but guess his stud fee! At $5000 I might find him worth a shot in a regional market (but probably not) but $10,000 at Winstar (I think)? Somebody mixing up the Kool-Aid!
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

And for the same cost you could go to Verifying, who at least is MG1P

And is also from an excellent family. Kind of wild that one of the selling features for Heartland is that he’s a half brother to a stallion that Coolmore has already unloaded to South Korea.

I’ve been reading that Robert Sangster book. History just keeps repeating.

Pilot Commander, one of a fistful of hyped Baffert maiden winners over last fall, re-appears at Del Mar Saturday. Last seen chasing Muth in the San Vicente in January.

I was looking to see where Nutella Fella has been. He had only ran once this year, finishing 3rd in the Woody Stephens in June. He sustained bone bruising in the race, in the same hind ankle that caused him to miss the BC and half of 2024. He is going to have a CT scan on September 15th to see if he can resume training.

Vitality (Street Boss × Belissimo) won the Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie yesterday.

Filly Airosa (Uncle Mo) was second and colt Bedard (Nyquist) was third.

Three sons of Arrogate nominated to PA Derby: Seize the Grey, Dragoon Guard, and one of my favorites Pandagate. Hope they all run well if they go.

Is the multitudinous throng that owns Seize the Grey not considering the Goodwood—Awesome Again—California Crown? I thought there was some new fangled bonus for which he and only he was eligible?
