2nd. Boulard Buck(JPN) (Lord Kanaloa x Rouge Buck (o/o Ginger Punch))
3rd. Danon Amaretto(JPN) (Deep Impact x Why (full to Tapestry, John F Kennedy))
Charles Fipke has got to be the only Canadian owner licensed with the JRA, right?

It’s neat that he took an interest in Japanese racing enough to buy and breed horses there, when so many other jurisdictions have an easier barrier to entry (I know he has horses in Ireland and Dubai now and then) but like France or Australia.

And of course the horse is gonna have the most Fipke name ever.

According to the TDN article he does have horses in England, Ireland, France, Australia, and Dubai.

I thought this last night but I have to, sorry everyone. I remember Ticker Tape racing but forgot her pedigree. When I looked it up my immature mind was like, "Thank god he didn't get to name Ticker Tape's dam Argent Du Bois."

Honestly, it took me a while to realize that Kana Tape's ''Kana'' was taken from her sire.
It was also interesting that TDN (Alan Carraso) quoted the information from umanity.jp.
And I see why Katsumi Yoshida was so delighted, haha!
He must hope that Charles Fipke will become more active in the Select Sale in Hokkaido this Summer.

Kana Tape is a lovely filly.
I'm a big fan of her trainer Noriyuki Hori, too. :D

Well dang! No continent is safe from the world's worst names ;)

In all seriousness, that is really nice to see. His horses are fun to root for, all brutal names aside. Of course he's a billionaire but he seems to be a little self serious than say... Coolmore, Godolphin, "The Avengers" etc.

Someone said over in the Breeding section that he gives his horses such obvious and dumb names because then at a glance, he knows who the sire and dam are. I mean, makes sense, but man the names lack poetry. I've come to enjoy them, though.

It is standard practice in some breeds to combine either the parents' names or put the breeding farm in the name. Lipizzaners are always a combo of the sire's and dam's names, and many SBs have the name of the breeder in their names. I like being able to glance at a name and know something about the pedigree.

Nahhhhh I prefer the poetic names (the ones that aren't smushed together words). That's what equibase and pedigreequery are for. :D

A lot of hunter ponies get prefixes in their names that tell you quickly a pony's bloodline - sometimes the breeder's farm name, sometimes not.
