Supposedly was quite a race between Vindictive and Pipeline with both getting 96 Beyers as per Andy Serling. https://twitter.com/andyserling/status/ ... 94147?s=21

Pipeline comes from the female family of First Samurai. Some nice Janney runners on the dam side.

I always worry about young horses having such a grueling first race with alot of crop beating as with Irad. Not sure if I was a horse that I would be too keen to do that again.

I agree. Racing isn't very comfortable for horses anyway. Being stung by so much whipping would put ME off the whole thing.
I wonder how the trainers of first-time starters (esp. babies) feel about a jockey repeatedly whipping their horse?
If anyone remembers the wonderful HBO series "Luck" (cancelled far too soon), Nick Nolte's crusty old trainer was furious when a young jock he let ride his prized colt in its first race disobeyed his instructions to NOT use the whip on the horse. She ended up going to the whip to get the win...and when she dismounted, he grabbed her crop and threw it in the trash. IIRC, he growled something about how that could 'ruin' the colt, who had great potential.

Agree 100%-Irad’s overuse of the whip is never mentioned- only what a great jockey he is and how many wins he gets. Jose does not seem to overuse it as much.

It's nice to see this handsome chestnut get a G1 win. He has a good pedigree, so this may help him find a spot on someone's stallion roster.

Probably Calumet's, since the bred and race him.

Given that Mirasol is currently the best bred Arrogate on the track (H. New Year's Day, Mohaymen, Enforceable, Kingly), anyone have any idea if the Songbird filly is in training somewhere? Or is she even going to hit the track at all?

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

She hasn't posted any workouts yet. Whisper Hill horses usually show up as training at Whisper Hill Training Center at first, which is where they said she was sent when she was weaned.

Mandy Pope isn't afraid to race her horses. When she'd show up though is anyone's guess. America's Joy, the $8.2 million Leslie's Lady filly, hasn't started yet and its August of her 3yo year but she is in training.

Yeah, I had heard she was sent to the training center, but after that I knew nothing more. I saw America's Joy was working which prompted my question. I've been eagerly awaiting little bird's first work aha. For now, I'll settle with Mirasol

Yeah, I thought that race had quite a few runners who had a decent chance to win...but then half of them seemed to run out of gas.

2yo c Dripping Gold won SAR R1. He’s by Lemon Drop Kid out of the Danzig mare Aurelia from the Courtly Dee family. 8.5f is probably just a warm-up for him with that pedigree.
