Unmatched Wisdom an almost black Cairo Prince colt with a small white star owned by Klaravitch and trained by Chad Brown, makes it 2 for 2 taking the second at Aqueduct today impressively by close to 6 lengths -ridden by Flavien Prat who gave up a mount on the favorite in the Ohio Derby to ride him. Look for him at SAR next-maybe the Curlin or the Jim Dandy? Rising exciting potential star… https://x.com/thetdn/status/1804576927300169960?s=46 https://x.com/twinspires/status/1804562 ... 61872?s=46

That's a better Klaravich name than most.Squeaky wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2024 1:40 pm Unmatched Wisdom an almost black Cairo Prince colt with a small white star owned by Klaravitch and trained by Chad Brown, makes it 2 for 2 taking the second at Aqueduct today impressively by close to 6 lengths -ridden by Flavien Prat who gave up a mount on the favorite in the Ohio Derby to ride him. Batten Down for Bill Mott takes the Ohio Derby wire to wire despite opening a big lead, setting fast fractions and not changing leads, was able to dig deep and keep going to hold off Gould’s Gold and Copper Tax with Catching Freedom fourth. https://x.com/fanduel_racing/status/180 ... 19526?s=46

Catching Freedom is starting to have the look of a horse that doesn't really want to win. I know that Batten Down was loose on the lead, but they were getting to him in the stretch and it didn't seem to me that Catching Freedom had much of an excuse. He couldn't even finish strong enough to save 3rd!

The connections will give him a break if that is what they feel he needs. He has run a similar schedule to Angel of Empire(same connections) last year. They sent AoE to the sidelines last year for a break, though he hasn't started since.
I can see why they ran here though, I'm sure they weren't expecting that performance. I know I wasn't. Thing is, isn't he a closer? I know Batten Down was out on the front alone but Catching Freedom wasn't that far behind him. I could be thinking of the wrong horse but I swear he won the Louisiana Derby from behind.

I wonder why they decided to put him so close to the pace and if that was a factor is his lackluster performance? Maybe they thought since the field wasn't big he needed to be closer.Izvestia wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 12:07 amHe is a closer.Flanders wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2024 8:35 pm The connections will give him a break if that is what they feel he needs. Still don't know where MM is racing next. Maybe they should try him on turf. He does have a lot of Northern Dancer in his pedigree.Saban wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 10:09 pmI agree that Mighty Message is not a graded stakes horse unless he improves a lot. He will probably finish the year trying to go through the allowance conditions and maybe some listed stakes races.
I think he is a nice colt, just not as talented as other 3 year old sons of Goldencents, Mystik Dan and Gould's Gold.

Neat, a tough little chestnut with a big white blaze, takes the the Manila at AQU by about a length over switched to the grass Deterministic who ran better than his last 2 races-but I didn’t like how he kept switching leads during the stretch run. I wonder if something is bothering them when they do that. Both likely to go for turf races at SAR.

Brilliant Bertie (Noble Mission x Believe In Bertie) wins the American Derby at Churchill, with First World War (War Front) in 2nd.
Nice son of a stallion the US shipped off to Japan...which saw the quality we didn't appreciate.

https://www.drf.com/news/neat-delivers- ... la-victoryDeterministic, the 9-5 favorite, ran a little spotty, according to jockey Dylan Davis.
“Into the second turn they jumped away from him and immediately I had to get into him to get him going,” Davis said. “He doesn’t have a really big turn of foot. Down the lane, once I started getting into him, he was swapping leads a few times so he’s just not 100 percent focused. But he still ran a great race. I thought he handled the turf and based on the gallop-out I think that maybe he would handle some more ground.”

Wynstock (Solomini) takes the Los Alamitos Derby by a nostril over stablemate Cornell.
Nice win for his co-owner Doc Allred, and for his old friend, trainer Bob Baffert.

Bizarrely run race as heavily favored Tapalo zoomed off to lead by 7 or 8 while Wynstock, who Baffert just said had to have the lead to win, dropped even farther back on the far turn, then woke up on the inside as Cornell swallowed up a staggering Tapalo but couldn't hold off the stablemate.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2024 8:06 pm Wynstock (Solomini) takes the Los Alamitos Derby by a nostril over stablemate Cornell.

I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Update on Just Steel who is recovering well from condylar fracture surgery at a farm. Saying there could be a late Fall campaign. I wonder if would be best to perhaps turn him out for the rest of the year and try to bring him back next year? I am surprised he wasn’t retired. Also waiting for an update on Nysos and Mr. Fisk which I know will likely not come any time soon considering the secrecy of the connections.
