I was so busy at the Derby, I forgot completely that I should probably update the picks.. and when I actually got on my phone, I had to document what was happening around me! Well. Me and the other musketeers will enjoy being the worst handicappers of all time for a 2nd consecutive year. Undefeated in that area.

I feel I should change my username to Catfish, I'm always down there in the mud. But I do believe I might be middle-bottom this year!
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

We have a new champion! The Derby pool race was almost as close as the Derby itself, but let's all congratulate Izvestia for being the only person to correctly choose the top two finishers! Excellent work, Izvestia--you are now officially the Greatest Handicapper of All Time for one year
Let's also congratulate Flanders and ForTheThrill for filling out the trifecta with some strong showings. And I'd also like to shout out aethervox, who received zero points but was almost completely spot-on with both the final time and margin. The Derby Pool has been running for many years, but that may be a unique feat!
The official order of finish (tiebreakers not applied, because I'm tired):
Izvestia: 50
Flanders: 46
ForTheThrill: 45
Northport: 40

I'd like to personally thank Resilience for keeping me out of the basement Let me know if my math is wrong anywhere, and thank you all for participating! I really look forward to running this contest every year, and always great to see so many people taking part.
Until next year! Or possibly Breeders' Cup time!

I was at Santa Anita watching on TV at Sirona's grandstand bar and couldn't hear the call of course for all the screaming. And I hadn't watched a replay yet. So watching that link that Tessablue posted, I see that Larry Collmus missed Mystic Dan's rail move to the front. He called Resilience as going to the lead when Mystic Dan was a good two lengths in front of him!
Very reminiscent of Tom Durkin when he missed Mine That Bird's rail run back in 2009. Tom always said that he wished he could have that one back!
Oh, and congrats to Izvestia, Flanders, and For The Thrill! Great job!

I would like to say I’m not ashamed of my results-it’s also a “talent” to have zero points!
It’s a good thing I don’t bet the derby

I think you forgot me but it probably doesn't matter since I'm not really good at this

You know, just about every horse I bet on this weekend placed third, so third place fits so well! As always, this was a blast!

Yes, appreciate Tessablue's work and admire the winners! I'm very happy with my mid-pack finish.
My big win came just before the Derby--my friend and I were at the bar waiting to buy Bourbons behind some men who were ordering for a group. To apologize (unnecessarily) for the delay, they offered--insisted--on paying for our drinks. So taking that into account, I came out ahead on the Derby!

Oops, I'm sorry! I did score you, just missed your name while transcribing the results. Consequences of staying up too late, you've been added!Palace Malice wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 9:53 am I think you forgot me but it probably doesn't matter since I'm not really good at this
Haha I'm glad someone benefited from it! Congrats to all who picked Dan--great choice, he was only selected by 20% of the entrants.
Thanks again everyone! I finished poorly here as usual (and at the betting windows...), but it was a safe and wonderful day of racing, so I think everyone wins.
