I haven't got a favorite runner in the Hopeful this year. I just don't know these babies very well. But I'm interested to see how the shortshots Gastrique and Seven Magician run, as well as longshots Gruner Green and Sea Wizard, fare.

I'm interested in Sea Wizard, as well. It would be nice if the imported Beach Patrol does well as a sire.

Beach Patrol was always a trier. If he passes that on, maybe he will do well.

14th favorite Dura Erede(JPN)(Duramente) won the G1 Hopeful Stakes 2000m turf at Nakayama under Bauyrzhan Murzabayev nosing out Top Knife(JPN)(Declaration of War) at the wire on Dec 28th 2022. :o

It was amazing Duramente(JPN)(King Kamehameha) got another G1 winner in the last 2yo race in JRA this year and claimed the Champion 2yo sire title with the money earned by Dura Erede, nailing Epiphaneia(JPN)!!!

JRA Awards will be announced in the new year.

Here below are my thoughts:

HOTY: Equinox (Kitasan Black)

2yo filly: Liberty Island (Duramente)
3yo colt: Equinox (Kitasan Black)
3yo filly: Stars on Earth (Duramente)
Older male: Titleholder (Duramente)
Older female: Geraldina (Maurice)
Sprinter or Miler: Serifos (Daiwa Major)
Dirt: Jun Light Bolt (King Kamehameha) or Cafe Pharoah (American Pharoah)
Steeplechase: Nishino Daisy (Harbinger)

Usha Tesoro won by nearly 2 lengths over a very weak field in the Tokyo Daishoten.
Notturno 2nd and Meisho Hario 3rd.

The Tokyo Daishoten at Oi Racecourse was the final G1 race of the year in Japan.
Interestingly, the King Kamehameha x Orfevre cross produced G1 winners two days in a row, one on the turf and the other on the dirt.

Dura Erede(JPN) : Duramente(JPN)/King Kamehameha(JPN) x Marchesa, by Orfevre
Ushba Tesoro(JPN) : Orfevre(JPN) x Millefeui Attach(JPN), by King Kamehameha

I'm sure that he will have an international campaign next year and Dubai could be his initial target.
Interestingly, fewer Japanese fans want Japan's new hero to go to the Arc which is most likely to be run on a muddy road, haha!

Not yet.
And we don't know what day exactly JRA will announce the results.
It was on Jan 11th last year.
