ah yeah, that works!
also was tickled to see a FILLY win the KING'S plate :D

Sweet Azteca strolls in the Rancho Bernardo at Del Mar. Headed for the BC FP&M Sprint and she's looking strong.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

I love this filly! She must be a potential Breeders Cup mount that Flavien doesn't want to get away from him. He gave up a Sunday at the Spa to come out and ride her in a relatively minor stakes. Filly and Mare Sprint here she comes! (I Hope!)

Yeah I've already seen plenty of "witching" and moaning about how horrible the field is. Trying to pull a Beholder isn't a bad idea at this point in her career.

I don't think the field is that bad TBH, better than a field of four or five like we're used to for Cal G1s lately.

Manner is better than Manure which was another possibility. Let’s see how she runs, autocorrect might adjust. And then there’s this one……….

A Priest, a Minister and a Rabbit walk into a bar. The Barkeep says, “Rabbit, what’ll ya have?” The Rabbit replies, “I dunno, I’m only here because of autocorrect.”

If a field of this exact quality repeats the next five years, should the race still be a G1? It’s the Cornhusker on the beach.

Fillies have a crazy good record in the Plate. I keep wondering why that is.

No Pacific Classic for Adare Manor

https://x.com/DRFAndersen/status/1829538846696169822
The mare Adare Manor will not run in Saturday's G1 Pacific Classic, trainer Bob Baffert said Friday morning. Baffert said that Adare Manor tied up after her gallop Thursday. "I don't feel she's 100 percent," he said. More later this morning at http://DRF.com. #drf

Saw that earlier today. Disappointing, as I thought she had a very good shot to win it. But after watching The Big Torpedo go down earlier today, I'm just glad she'll be okay.

I haven't checked, but perhaps more fillies run in the Plate on a regular basis compared to the rare filly that runs in the Derby or Belmont or Preakness.

Definitely that. The Canadian Oaks is run before the Plate, so often the Oaks winner runs against the boys.

I also wonder if at that point in their development, fillies are physically at the same level as the boys or ahead of them in their maturity.

There is one significant difference between the King's Plate and the Kentucky Derby, and that is that the Plate is actually a restricted race for Canadian- breds only while the Derby is open to all 3yos regardless of where they we're bred. I could be wrong, of course, but I suggest that this might be a major reason for the increased participation, and success, of fillies in the Plate.

There's also the surface difference, but that would probably have a minimal effect on the statistics, especially because the Churchill dirt is known for being at least moderately friendly to turf and synthetic horses. Remembering Wise Dan and Einstein in particular.
