HB1994, thank you for posting that randy moss rant. he is absolutely right. its disgraceful that there is no accountability in racing. and i still don't get how they can fine tyler g, but there wasn't a DQ. absurd. he should have been taken down from 2nd place. its truly maddening.

I'm in agreement. I swear I read somewhere that the stewards said its the jockey's job to file an objection. Ryusei Sakai didn't know this because this kind of thing doesn't happen in the JRA. The JRA stewards look at everything, like they should, and make all the calls.

In the 8th race (the 'Serens's Song') at Monmouth Park this past Sunday, there was an immediate Steward's inquiry at the end of the race. Then came the jockeys' objections. All lights were lit on the board. A claim of foul was lodged against each horse in the race.

There are times when a jockey fine without a DQ is merited--when a jockey rides unsafely but does not interfere with race results in a material way, for example. But this seems like a rare case in which the opposite would have been the correct outcome. I understand zero-tolerance for touching another horse, but Gaffalione was making every effort to straighten his mount, and the interference was considerable. I'm not really sure what else he could have done. The horse has an unbalanced stride and can't run straight when he's tired, and it's probably going to keep causing problems moving forward unless he learns to run inside horses.

Most likely a decision made to quell public outrage, but it should not let the stewards off the hook here.

Ahh. Got ya. But then I think they stand alone as the only track in the country that does this.

I believe that the stewards did not want to create a controversy (DQ) for two reasons:

This was the 150th anniversary running of the KD.
This would have been the third DQ in six years in the KD.

Instead of avoiding a controversary, they created a larger one.
