Earned another check. Finished third as the 5/2 favorite.

There has never been a greater argument in favor of exchange wagering than Ziconic.

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Ax Man (Misremembered - Shameful, by Flying Chevron) won his debut (MSW at Santa Anita) by 9 1/2 lengths.

Ax Man was really impressive. IMO, he looks very little like Misremembered (which is fine with me :P ) and more like his female side of the family.

I think that was the first of the restricted MSW's at Santa Anita, designed to give small barns a chance to run without facing monsters from the big barns. So who wins it? Baffert. (The restrictions are sale price $100,000 or less, or homebred.) Can't win for losing.

I always liked Misremembered and although he hasn't been much of a sire (possibly because he had a funkyish way of going IIRC) he had quite a bit of talent and has the right to sire a good one.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

That really is funny, Ritvo created the anti-BB rule specifically so that homebreds and less expensive maidens wouldn't have to run against the multi-million dollar auction winners. Guessing a guy like Zito would love to see a similar condition on the east coast, probably call it the anti-TP rule ;)

Ohbytheway, AX MAN got a 96 BSF for his initial outing.

Admittedly Ax Man met the spirit as well as the letter of the restriction--from a small breeder by an inexpensive stallion. At least BB didn't dip in with a Juddmontr homebred!

Gentildonna's full 3yo sister has passed her gate test and is progressing with training. One to look forward to in 2018

I think she looks like a feminine version of her sire, definitely. Wish she had a name though!

IIRC, De Coronado has done better on the track than either of Zen's boys. I'm kind of surprised that Coolmore has sold him, as that pedigree is sure to attract some breeders, even if he never gets a Group win. And he's a handsome horse.
I wonder if this move shows their opinion that Vertigineux's legacy as a broodmare is not panning out, and they didn't see any place for him at Ballydoyle as a stud. :?

If they are willing to sell Henrythenavigator, Duke of Marmalade, Black Sam Bellamy, John F Kennedy, Gallante, etc., De Coronado never had a chance. Unless you're a star on the track and hit the ground running with your first 3 crops, no one is guaranteed a stall at Ballydoyle or Coolmore. If they don't want to keep a (second) son of Urban Sea, they probably didn't bat an eye selling a son of Vertigineux.

I wouldn't be surprised to see De Coronado standing somewhere as a National Hunt stallion at some point. The family has plenty of stamina and for a couple hundred Euro, some breeders might be interested.

I know I should know this but  ...who was the Urban Sea son they sold?

I'm not surprised at all. Coolmore would never stand this quality of racehorse at their farm.

I am surprised that he wasn't sold to the US though.

He's so fuzzy! I'm surprised he hasn't been given a racing clip.
