@DRFGrening Skippylongstocking was pulled up top of stretch by Tyler Gaffalione. Jockey said the horse got real weak on him so he pulled him up. "Maybe the heat got to him," Gaffalione said.

Seriously
Given the sheer number of Galileo broodmares they have, you'd think they'd enjoy running one of his last good fillies another season. They have lots of broodmares - not a lot of Grade 1 winning Galileo's still running..

But isn’t Justify an exceptional sire? I don’t like such huge books (I seriously worry for his health) but at least she’s going to a proven stallion.
That said I think the rushing horses to the shed isn’t good for the industry long term.

The point was she just turned 4 and is super talented. Why rush her off to broodmare duties? I know their reasoning though, its that she could produce a colt they could rush off to stud. They have so many broodmares, they could have just sent someone else and enjoy racing a really nice mare. I guess they already threw the fans a bone though by letting Auguste Rodin race at 4.

No, I totally agree: honestly I think they could wait until she’s five. Justify isn’t going anywhere and has no shortage of mares. I think it’s a huge shame to retire a horse that is doing so well. Don’t horses not reach full maturity until five anyways? Not a fan of breeding three and four year old fillies.Flanders wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 7:09 pmThe point was she just turned 4 and is super talented. Why rush her off to broodmare duties? Also there’s no guarantee with broodmare success, but I guess aslong as they can sell the offspring the foal can have three legs as far as Coolmore’s concerned

Maybe it was a combination of that and it being hot. He came out well, that’s the most important thing, to fight another day.”
