most replies are in Japanese, and i don't see a translate option, so can someone help?

why is using a hammer and chisel (looking, not really what it is) therapeutic? it looks like torture, not therapy. how does it work?

Looks like the equine version of ART aka active release therapy, or even foam rolling. The brick is probably foam. But I am also curious.

I'm almost jealous. I would pay that guy to do that to about 3 spots in my traps right now.

The poo-pooers of equine chiropractic therapy (beyond whether or not it actually works) will tell you that human hands couldn't possibly "manipulate" (or whatever they call it) an animal the size of a horse's spine. Looks like they brought a bigger hammer. . . . .

I've seen that hammer thing with humans too. Apparently it's more accurate and helps aligning the vertebrae. (Don't know if true, but I've seen others use it too)

Yusuke Yamaguchi tweeted;
''We finish her (physical) preparations when she gets tooth (bite) treatments this afternoon.
Now we will start her straightening from next week.''

Thanks for the update, Tachyon.

It will be interesting to see how this filly progresses.

I’ve used/seen used all of these therapies on show jumpers. The mallet/block of wood gives precise “whacks” to align vertebrae. The vibrator:thumper is Excellent for relieving muscle tightness/knots. One therapy that would be hugely beneficial is a water treadmill. Not swimming as this inverts them... water tread with head down builds wicked top line and strength!

Water treadmill is used in Japan, too, although I don't know if Yamaguchi ever tried it for Reframe. :D

Yusuke Yamaguchi (owner & pre-race trainer) tweeted;

'''Natural Horsemanship Training is a different approach from what I usually adopt for my horses.
I had rather been skeptical about it as I basically believe that thoroughbreds had better not to be too conscious of humans.
Thoroughbreds are amenable as well as combative by nature. When they become too docile, most of them tend to lose strength (fighting spirits as racehorses) in return.
But I felt like trying this approach as I thought this could be positive especially for this filly.
It's Mr Nemoto who is training her in the videos.''

You are very welcome, Ziggypop. :D

I just thought it could be a rare opportunity to watch how a thoroughbred would be retrained after that freaky debut.
As far as I know, racing is not keen on sharing this kind of stuff with an outsider like me.
Thanks to Mr Yamaguchi's inputs, I think I can learn a lot.
Fingers crossed this filly comes back to the racetrack as a superstar!

Her half-brother (and Careless Jewel's last foal) is entered in the Keeneland September Sale. A Union Rags colt named Tattered Flag!

When you say 'Careless Jewel's last foal,' do you mean this is her latest foal, having not had a foal this past spring? Or is it the 'last' foal because she has been pensioned? :?

Careless Jewel is pensioned. She has a history of difficult births this colt is her last.

That's unfortunate, but I'm glad her connections are protecting her. Since she's only 14 and has been a good producer, that couldn't have been an easy decision.

It was because she colics. Either way her owner is trying to do right by her mares.
