Marshall Law (IRE)

Running in the 5th @ Kentucky right now.

Not to be confused with the Santa Anita Handicap winner
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

She won today at Churchill Downs. I can no longer spell that word; it doesn't look right either way. :(

The Stiff, a 3yo gelding by Danza out of Betterlethergo, by Hold Me Back, ran sixth today at Santa Anita. His female bloodline obviously inspired his name, which in turn inspires in me the feeling that his jock wasn't giving his full effort in today's race.

No Pedigree (Half Ours-All About Ju Ju, by Into Mischief) makes his career debut today for Doug O'Neill in the Speakeasy, a $100K stake for 2-year-olds at Santa Anita. The name is a bit harsh. Yes, he's a Louisiana-bred and Half Ours stands for only $5K, but I've seen much less fashionable pedigrees win races like this often.

Funny. So he sired one at Indiana Grand, one at Mountaineer, eh? Is the bonus offer officially dead, or has it been extended to the fall Belmont and Santa Anita meets?

All the ADs seem to have disappeared, so the bonus is probably not still out there. I don't know for sure though.

I feel a little sad for JM, though. I think he really expected to pay that bonus out this Summer at least once and maybe more. It's probably quite disappointing to him because he clearly thought Run Happy was going to be quite productive with his first crop. It makes it even more sad that one of the two that did win was a homebred of his that had to be put down with a catastrophic injury! :(

Also, he's spent an unspeakable amount of money over the past two or three years just promoting the stallion

It's of course FxAR top early to pass any kind of judgment Run Happy! With good health, he has a very, very long time to go! Bless his Heart!

Runhappy himself didn't debut until late late December of his 2yo year, he bombed in a January race, was off until July and then went on to win 6 races in a row through the end of the year. His foals might just need some time, maybe they are late developers.

Thanks for that Flanders, I didn't remember Runhappy's early career history. You're probably right. His babies may just require a smidge more time to mature. Also, the 2020 2yo season is only half over. There's a few more races yet to be run! ;)

MySaladDays wrote: Tue Sep 08, 2020 5:57 am I think a good name for a horse is one that "ties in" with a big corporation .......

Big Brown sure got UPS on board for instance. Lots of BB fans out of that one, lots of free advertising, ,and that brings in non-racing public to the pools.

Something like Amazonian nowadays
Although using the actual name of the business is a no-no. The Jockey Club usually notices such violations before the horses make it to the track, but back in the '80s, someone named a horse "U.S. Air," which was the name of an airline at the time, and actually raced him a couple of times before the Jockey Club wised up and ordered a change. The owner chose J.C. [for Jockey Club] Recall!
Makes sense.

I sure did get a kick out of the UPS people, some of who were not even racing fans, getting into the act though. That was fun!

There's a lot of T shirts with the logo "game winner" on them. I wonder what that signifies? If I had been a fan of him i would have purchased one, I see them on ebay all the time.

Roan Rivers, I get -- cute play on words -- but Lois Lane and Jackson Pollock are just names of a character and an artist. What's so amusing about those? I wouldn't call all those Aidan O'Brien runners' "famous names" (George Washington, Mendelssohn, Dylan Thomas, etc.) amusing, would you?
