Ride of the season from Elaura Cieslik today in France? Saddle slips in straight, but rides on bareback to win by 3/4 length. Calm and courage to rival any big-name jock.
Look for the white shadow roll near the rail - #2 in blue/white silks. Saddle was completely upside down and back to the stifle!
Amazing! Hats off to BOTH horse and jockey! I wonder if she will get an invite to the Palio  ?
How to keep your cool... reminds me of another female jockey was it in Australia? Where the bridle broke off and she rode her horse bitless to the finish (didn't win but kept calm and sat quietly holding the reins around the neck until horse slowed down).

Whooooooooah, I would have been a goner  Gotta give the horse some credit too, both stayed calm. Could have been so much worse if the horse spooked. What a great ride, I would give him double % of the winners purse as an owner.

I am wondering if we actually should open up a thread called "Riding feats and other curiosities" so stuff like this doesn't get buried, I'm sure more people would enjoy that vid.

Her ;)
But yes I agree my first thought was "hats off to her for improvising how she did hanging off the side then climbing back on, and then kudos to the horse for staying all business

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

I see that Dortmund just ran in the 5th at Kembla Grange in Australia. :P ;)
It's funny when a different TB name registry allows the use of a pretty well-known name.

I edited this like 8 times. First I want to say, I'm just having a conversation not being argumentative. I wanted to add that because I don't want to come across harsh or something because that is not my intent. I've always found the International list of protected names interesting and truly how few horses are on it.

Not really, while he might be well known in the US, he didn't win a G1 race since the SA Derby at 3. There are way more talented US horses that aren't on the list including Azeri, Holy Bull, Point Given, Serena's Song and countless others. Honestly if Justify doesn't win the BC Classic, his name won't even automatically go onto the list. They have added him to the Temporary protected names list though along with Cracksman. In the grand scheme of things, if every horse that won at G1 race in every country or was a Champion was added to the list, names would go away super fast.

Surprisingly, there are only 3069 names that are Internationally protected. In 2009 the committee removed almost 1600 names from the list from pre-1950, you can view those on the 2009 list.(the link to all is at the bottom)

Since 2005, the only racehorses that get protected are winners of:
Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini, Grande Premio Brazil (South America)
Cox Plate (2005), Melbourne Cup (from 2006 onwards), Dubai World Cup, Hong Kong Cup, Japan Cup (Asia)
Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Irish Champion(Europe)
Breeders’ Cup Classic, Breeders’ Cup Turf (North America)

From 1996 - 2004:
from 1996 to 2004, the winners of the nine following international races :
Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini, Grande Premio Brazil (South America)
Japan Cup, Melbourne Cup (Asia)
Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Queen Elizabeth II Stakes(Europe)
Breeders’ Cup Classic, Breeders’ Cup Turf (North America)

Prior to 1995:
Preis der Diana, Deutsches Derby, Preis von Europa (Germany)
Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Belmont Stakes, Jockey Club Gold Cup, Breeders’ Cup Turf, Breeders’ Cup Classic (United States of America)
Poule d’Essai des Poulains, Poule d’Essai des Pouliches, Prix du Jockey Club, Prix de Diane, Grand Prix de Paris, Prix Vermeille, Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (France)
1000 Guineas, 2000 Guineas, Oaks, Derby, Ascot Gold Cup, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, St Leger, Grand National (Great Britain)
Irish 1000 Guineas, 2000 Guineas, Derby, Oaks, Saint Leger (Ireland)
Premio Regina Elena, Premio Parioli, Derby Italiano, Oaks (Italia)

Broodmares and stallions can also make the list by meeting the following criteria:
-Broodmares who have produced at least two Group 1 winners and one other Black Type winner.
-Stallions who have produced at least 15 individual Group 1 winners.

Plus each country can submit 3 racehorses and 3 breeding stock horses each year to be considered for addition on the protection list.

Another incredible ride, this time from New Zealand! Watch the no.6, falls completely on its belly at the first but jockey does a miraculous recovery and the pair go on to win!

Thanks for the info and the links, Flanders.
I wasn't suggesting that Dortmund's name be protected, because it's true that his career wasn't especially noteworthy. I just find it interesting/amusing when a name that I know well pops up in a foreign post parade. Heck, I even see famous TB names used for American SBs. I think I saw a Tapit trotting sometime in the last couple of years.

French 1,000 Guineas winner (and British 1,000 Guineas second) Laurens just won the Prix de Diane.

It was an O'Brien 1-2-3 in the Irish Derby at the Curragh...except the winner wasn't trained by Aiden. :D
Latrobe shocks Saxon Warrior to land first Classic for Joseph O'Brien
Like father like sons. Joseph O'Brien notched his first Classic success as Latrobe, who won a lowly maiden at the course last time out, held off Rostropovich and Saxon Warrior in an enthralling finish to the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby under Donnacha O'Brien.

There are some classic pedigrees here; Latrobe is by Camelot, and Joseph and Donnacha are by Aiden. 8-)
Aiden O'Brien has clearly done a great job teaching Joe how to train (maybe too well?). This is the second world-class race where Joe's charge has defeated his father's horses. Last year, Joseph's Rekindling edged out Aiden's Johannes Vermeer to win the Melbourne Cup.

Happy to see Camelot get a classic winner in his first crop. He was such a talented racehorse and it’s nice to see a son of Montjeu do well after poor St. Nicholas Abbey never had a chance.

Aww...St. Nick. :(
I suspect that the Coolmore lads still haven't gotten over his loss. They tried so hard and so long to overcome his injury and the ensuing cascade of complications.
Speaking of pedigrees; Coolmore's Van Beethoven won the G2 Railway Stakes for two-year-olds in the race before the Derby. The handsome son of Scat Daddy is from his last crop, so I hope he goes on to great success next year. It would be cool if SD's last offspring also take down some of the European classics, like Justify did in the US Triple Crown.

This Saturday’s Coral-Eclipse (G1) field is shaping up nicely. AOB is wheeling back Saxon Warrior from his third in the Irish Derby last weekend to face Epsom Derby winner Masar. Derby third Roaring Lion is also entered, along with Hawkbill, Happily, and Cliffs of Moher.

Interesting that Ryan Moore is going to be riding at Belmont this weekend, instead of in Britain. So, Donnacha O'Brien gets the call on Saxon Warrior.
