Untapped Takes First Steps Toward Filling Big Shoes
David Fiske was packing his car Jan. 19 in preparation for the drive to Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.

Among the many things the Winchell Thoroughbreds manager hopes to see during his time in New Orleans is a definitive sign that their 3-year-old filly Untapped is starting to make some headway on sparking some similarities between herself and her big sister.

While they already share bloodlines, connections, and near identical monikers, Fiske said Untapped is still a far different animal than her full sister, Untapable, the Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) winner and champion 3-year-old filly of 2014. Should Untapped boast half the talent of her sibling, she should be in good stead when she makes her stakes debut Jan. 21 in the Silverbulletday Stakes at Fair Grounds.

Just realized both full brothers to Chrome (Faversham) and Pharoah (Irish Pharaoh) are 2 years old this year. The internet is gonna have a meltdown if they ever meet.

The winner of R6 at Gulfstream, Snap Decision, is a Hard Spun half-brother to G1-winner Mr. Speaker. Personal Ensign is his second dam.

Barbaro's Brother Nicanor Gets First Winner as Sire
Nicanor, the full brother to the late 2006 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) winner Barbaro, got his first winner as a sire when Joseph Besecker's Nicamore sped to a 2 1/4-length victory in a Jan. 28 maiden claiming race at Laurel Park.

In his fifth start, the 3-year-old colt broke quickest from the gate in the six-furlong race, but was rated behind the eager Don't Be Scared. Nicamore challenged in the far turn, with Three Beans giving chase, and was able to pull clear to score.

He was claimed out of the race for $10k.

Tequilita (Union Rags x Sangrita) upset the Forward Gal (gr. II). Michael Matz trained all three graded stakes winners.

Maiden Irap was second in the Robert B. Lewis (gr. III) -- he's a half-brother to Speightstown by Tiznow.

Nonna Bella won her debut today for Pletcher and Repole -- she's a half-sister to Outwork by Stay Thirsty, out of a half-sister to Cairo Prince.

Looks like De Treville(GB), 2012 H, Oasis Dream (GB) - Dar Re Mi (GB) by Singspiel (IRE), is back in Europe. There's an export report for him, and a Horse Racing Nation poster says he's in training with Andreas Wohler. In his last race here he finished 11th in the Thunder Road Stakes - Gr. 3 on 4/9/2016, he finished 11th.
